@melpre

I know this thread on SI joint issues may have some older entries, but I wanted to share some info anyway. Like many others have noted, I too have struggled for years with SI issues and have tried similar modalities like PT, injections, etc. I also had all the same symptoms- back pain, leg pain, constipation, incontinence, foot numbness, etc. It got to the point where I couldn't climb stairs, couldn't get up/down off the toilet by myself, couldn't dress myself. Out of desperation, I kept trying to find another doctor, then another- someone to help. I did. I had had an SI joint fusion earlier this year in Fort Myers (Dr. Ameglio) and it was nothing short of a miracle. ALL of my symptoms went away in a matter of a few days. I have had several previous orthopedic surgeries and this one was a breeze- and I am a wimp! For those still lookig for answers, check out SI Bone, Inc. website. Lots of info and you can look for a doctor near you. There is also a number you can call. The patient advocate is a nurse and is super helpful. Hope this helps someone out there.

@melpre I wondered how they confirmed it was your SI joint? I have every one of the symptoms you mention but steroid injections into the SI joint only lasted for a short time the day of the procedure so they said it was not the SI joint and the temporary effects were from the lidocaine. What was your experience? Also, what did they say would be the negatives from getting a fusion? Thank you, Gayle

So sorry to hear about how bad your problem got! The problem related to finding a fix is that so many doctors were taught in school that SI Joint don't move. I saw 5 of them over 2 years, 3 were orthopods. As I have hypermobile joints, my solution was finally prolotherapy on the stretched out, "lax" ligaments that should hold the joint in place. Ligaments are something else that do not get considered, as without the 'alternative' treatment of prolotherapy, they are hard to treat and slow to heal. They also do not show up on regular Xrays, so they have been lost in most analysis of problems. For me, the ligament tightening was a fix although the doctor says I may need another in time. So far so good for 6 years.
