Hair Loss Remedies for Thinning Hair on aromatase inhibitors?
Hi! I’m about to start endocrine therapy (AI plus Lupron) and am wondering if anyone has used any topical creams that helped with hair thinning, something I am afraid of (along w all the other side effects)!

Anyone use Propecia for hair loss and thinning from hormone blockers? My dermatologist wants to give me 0.625 mg. of Propecia. It can be very successful for hair re- growth. I have been on different sites regarding the safety of breast cancer women taking it. I have low Oncotype dx. Stage 1. It seems to increase estrogen slightly. I am sure my Oncologist would say no, based on no proof it is harmful, but I can't stand how disfigured I am, and how there is no money for plastic surgery except for filthy implant, or a fat transfer with fat tissue full of chlordane, based on blood tests for pesticides I was exposed to. What to do.
Hi @colely,
I'm tagging fellow members like @lisastiebsuc @astaingegerdm @auntieoakley, who know what it's like to not have the hair they once had due to breast cancer treatments. You may also be interested in this related discussion:

Colely, I know your primary question is about the risks of Propecia. I can't speak to the risk vs benefits, but I recommend speaking to your pharmacist and oncologist about possible interactions.
I did not loose my hair from chemo . From taxol because I wore the cold cap before and during and after my 12 weeks of taxol. Finished in June. I’m loosing hair from my ulcerative colitis treatment of Entyvio.I started treatment in September and started loosing hair in October got progressively worse.
Welcome @colely , I can’t speak to the propecia specifically, because I didn’t take it. I can tell you that I have gotten real results from the nioxin program. There were two changes that made me grow most of my hair again. One was the nioxin program, the other was getting my cholesterol down and getting off the statin I was on. I am not sure how much that helped but it is the only two things I changed in hopes of growing thick hair again.
Did you take chemotherapy?
I’m on AI for a year. Originally I thought hair thinning was happening… and it was… ( others did not “see” this) … but has stopped and reversing. My thought is that it was telegen effluvium .. part of a natural cycle gone rogue temporarily due to the stress of my diagnosis as well as two surgeries- ie anesthesia - in 6 mos.
That said I take 8 mg if biotin and use Avalon Biotin shampoo and conditioner… which I really like.
Don’t expect hair thinning or loss but if so it may just be a temporary thing.
Hoping for the best outcome for you and all of us!
I have read that biotin can affect lab results. It is recommended that you stop it a couple of days before blood tests are scheduled. I stopped it all together for a while, but now believe it is safe as long as I remember to forego it before blood tests. I need all the help I can get!

Thank you! This is very helpful. Will search further as well as this study is 5 years old but it’s very easy to abstain for 48 hours so I will going forward. Much appreciated!
Not only so I take Biotin daily, but prenatal vitamins too!
I use a rice water shampoo bar and only wash the roots of my hair. (the shampoo runs down the length of my hair
to clean it) I also use a rice water spray as a leave-in conditioner. My hair is very thick and is past the middle of my back. I hope this helps!
wow! what is the brand of the bar and spray/conditioner?
I get them from Amazon. the shampoo looks like a bar of soap, rice water is a spray.
There's several products you can choose from.
Good luck and let me know how it works for you.
