Chronic Pain, alternative Treatment

Posted by CiPaul @cipaul, Jul 11, 2017

I have had chronic pain for 17 years. I know what I'm going to say will be met with doubt, but please try what I say, even though it is not completely backed up by sceince. I was on heavy doses of OPIOIDS for 16 years with no help, relieveing my pain, then I started to take Kratom, for the last year I have been Pain Free!!! If you try it , you will have to try different strains, to find out what works best for you

I second this. Don't believe all the negative hype. If you are looking for pain relief, this is better than opiates.

I have heard a lot of negative, dangerous info about that stuff, Kratom

Don't believe everything you hear. This is an amazing herb that helps pain more than opiates. The bad things are of those who take way too much kratom and get some kind of high with it. I've taken kratom for 7 years and it's be a life saver for my unrelenting chronic pain.

That's true with EVERYTHING. If a person takes too many opiates, they get high. I take opiates and have for 20 years. I don't take them to get high though. Saying kratom helps more than opiates is subjective. It's like saying Tylenol is better for a headache than ibuprofen, it all depends on the person. Saying kratom isn't dangerous is like saying opiates aren't dangerous. It isn't dangerous if TAKEN PROPERLY. I know for a fact it's a powerful substance because the show "To catch a smuggler" received a 100 pound shipment of the stuff that was powder. While he did say that kratom is used to make a tea, it's also given to people who are in withdrawals from opiates. He also said while it is legal, it's ILLEGAL to export or import. There's lots of drugs that are wonderful if you take them like you should but to say that Kratom isn't dangerous is wrong. Too much of ANYTHING is dangerous.

I didn't say it was not dangerous. You need to take kratom at the lowest dose to help your pain.
What I should have said, "for me, this is better than opiates"

It was the "don't believe everything you hear" that made me respond. It's all good. Whatever works for you.

The injury was caused by a prolonged compression of the right leg 5 years ago. I am healing, there are shifts, but the pain does not go away, swelling of the legs, lymphatic system.

Apre' fusion surgerieS (MAYO-TLIF L2 dn to S1) for 3+ years I've been dealing with a constant level 2-3+ low back pain (always subjective I know!). It's such that when I stand/walk for 4-5 min. , pain goes to level 4-5++ that bends me in two with agony...till I sit. Just diagnosed with mild neuropathy, radiculopathy.
I've had every kind of investigations. PAs, diagnostic treatments...from patented ablations, cortisones but can't find the exact pain source!
I'm on Lyrica, tried/have oxy 10mg prescription, tried tramadol, use big Tylenol, Ibuprofen & sometimes Voltran to get functional. (never acupuncture, chiropractic, mary jane, etc)
YET, in spite of it, I'm a 82 yr old gym and pool rat, can kayak 3 hrs..BUT, I'll TRY ANYTHING to stand & walk more than 4+ min.! Neal B. in NC

Mayo Clinic: "Kratom: Unsafe and ineffective" https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/consumer-health/in-depth/kratom/art-20402171

Personnally, I wouldn't take it until more studies are done about what it might do to your body. That said millions of people use it.

In contrast, Johns Hopkins did a study that found kratom to be very helpful for many chronic pain conditions: https://www.paintreatmentdirectory.com/posts/new-study-finds-kratom-effective-for-pain-addiction
