Reverse Total Shoulder Replacement
I would like to know how many of you had problems moving your arm after having a reverse total shoulder replacement? How about pain afterwards? I've had nothing but problems since my surgery!

I can't help with your question, but wanted to say your screen name made me smile. Prayers you'll get better soon! 🙂
Good evening @bionicwoman. I am trying to remember my "reverse" total shoulder replacement. I don't think I had too much pain afterward. My friend Kathy came up to stay with me for the first week. My arm was in the mobilizer and that was a bit of a restriction. I remember sitting on a bench outside my gallery greeting visitors. They all wanted to know what had happened to my shoulder. It does seem that I had less pain than before the surgery. At that time there wasn't a prescribed PT program. My PT worked out the "exercises" with my surgeon.
What kind of problems have you had since your surgery? Have you talked with your surgeon about what to expect and how to deal with any discomfort? When all was said and done......and the surgery area had healed, I found that my range of motion was a little on the crooked side. If you saw me trying to eat an ice cream cone you would have laughed.
How can we help @bionicwoman?
May you be safe, protected, and free from inner and outer harm.
Chris
Didn’t really use narcotics except at night for few days my best method of pain control was my cryocuff machine and when I was in a car brought a pillow. Slept pretty well compared to my TKR
I'm scheduled to have reverse total shoulder replacement on left arm in August. Right now I have really good range of motion going up and good use of arm except for lateral movement and the arm is weak. I'm very worried whether I'm doing the right thing. My rotator cuff is torn fully through. Surgeon feels it is the right decision. I am in pain quite a lot and have been for about 2 1/2 years. Can anyone give me their experiences with this surgery? Ten years ago I had rotator cuff repair done on the right for massive tear and a bicep repair but surgeon says the left is irreparable. Help!!!! I'm very nervous about whether I'm making the right move.
Had my Reverse Shoulder Replacement 3 years ago no problems..best thing I have had done. Hope you get better
Best thing I have had!! Just have good PT and follow Doctor orders.
Had mine done in 2021 no problems.
Thanks for your encouraging words. I'm glad you had a good experience. Hearing that helps a lot!
Had a reverse a few years ago and Im doing great. You can look forward to cessation of PAIN!
and be patient with the recovery. No one's recovery may be like yours. If yours takes longer it doesnt mean something is wrong. Good luck!
I had a RSR 2 years ago. My movement was very limited and I had alot of pain. The surgery was amazing. I am pain free and have full range of motion. It's the best working part of me.
FYI the rotator "cuff" is made up of four muscles. The supraspinatus is the most common to be torn. Lateral movement is always the worst. There's no way to strengthen that shoulder in its present condition. I speak from my own experience and also as a massage therapist. I don't even remember any significant post-op pain. Take a deep breath and go for it. It will continue to get worse if you don't.
