Headache when I drink water

Posted by erob98 @erob98, Jan 20, 2022

For a little background, around my mid-20s I started having headaches whenever I eat certain things, like peanut butter or apples. I also started to experience bloating and stomach pain anytime I would go a couple of hours without eating. I've been tested for allergies and don't have any, had a routine checkup and everything was normal, and I had an endoscopy which didn't reveal any issues.

Recently I started developing headaches whenever I drink tap water. I switched to drinking purified water at my grocery store and felt fine at first. But after a few weeks, I started getting headaches whenever I drink that too. I tried other brands of purified and spring water, and so far the only water I haven't had problems with drinking is Dasani bottled water. I noticed some ingredients it contained I didn't see listed in some of the other waters I tried were salt, magnesium sulfate, and potassium chloride.

Any ideas why I would get headaches drinking other water? Could my water headaches be related to the food sensitivities I started developing in my mid-20s?

I do drink water faster than other beverages. I hinge my head back a little sometimes. In my head I'm thinking if it were a muscle problem, I'd experience my symptoms no matter what brand of water I drink.

I was thinking you might not be drinking the cabbage juice, soda or whatever else you mentioned as fast as plain water. With water, your muscles would be working more than taking sips or 1 or 2 swigs of cabbage juice at a time.

Oh, okay. I could try drinking water slower to see if that makes a difference.

I also am having headache problems when I drink water. In addition, I have neck pain as well, and so it's hard to tell how much the neck pain is causing the headaches. But the headaches are definitely worse right after I drink the water. My blood pressure has gone up significantly recently and now I'm on medication for it. I'm having a hard time putting this puzzle together.

I really have no idea. But some of the ingredients you listed are electrolytes. Not sure what that means as far as your headaches. Are you sure it's not something else, like migraines? I'd check with a doc. FWIW......

I do not get headaches but never liked water. Although I can drink it now (I am 83 years old) it sometimes makes me nauseous. This has been the case my entire life.

Could it be the medicine you are taking with the water that is giving you the headache? Maybe get a water tester and see what is in the water???

I am very interestest in this topic. My 19 year old daughter gets headaches wheh she drinks water. She loves water and does not drink anything else. She has suffered headaches since that age of 15 and it has only gotten worse. She also has a skin reaction on her hands when they are in water. She takes quick showers and wears gloves when she does anything else around water. Her older sister and I have mast cell disorders and are currently being tested genetically and eventually by bone marrow. I am wondering if this could be mast cell related, especially witht the food issues. My 19 year old will go through all the same testing my other daughter and I have when e have finished. I hope this is a helpful clue for you.

Could it be the chlorine in the water? Does she drink bottled spring water - Deer Park the best.

I can only drink distilled water or I get migraines. I found that water high in sulfate and sulfites like Pellogrino gave me an instant migraine, I used to be able to drink Dasani because it isn’t mineral water like Arrowhead which gave me migraines. Do you get headaches with distilled water? Make sure it’s distilled and not RO water…
