I was prescribed Xanax .5 mg for sleep and took it exactly as prescribed and never abused it. After 15 years and changing doctors I was encouraged to discontinue the drug. I titrated off the drug and then that is when I experienced horrific withdrawal symptoms that made me miserable for almost two years. I suffered with everything from tremors to restless leg syndrome, anxiety, depression and insomnia. I am finally feeling well two years after stopping. This drug is harmful and I am so glad I am not dependent on it for sleep any longer. I now take a small dose of trazadone foe sleep. Do not let your doctor prescribe this drug.
