Medication efforts:
I tried fosamax - I can’t do that my stomach hurt every time.
I now have to choose between Boniva or Actonel . Boniva is free, actonel is $56 per month but I’ve read scary stories about Boniva

Addition to my previous response:
We do have the FRAX score, which is said to be based on the experience of a very large population. I'm not convinced it takes enough variables into account.
People are very not sure where to turn. My friend who had maybe osteopenia went on fosamax and a month or two later lost a tooth and needed an implant. The implant took 2 years to be bc accepted by her mouth. She doesn’t know if the fosamax messed with her healing
Some of us believe the risk of osteocronosis has been greatly underreported for Fosomax and even Prolia. Thus the risk/benefit is not fully understood.
I think it’s a fact that all osteoporosis medicines mess with wound healing , my fiend who is a dentist told me that. Thus
if you never have a wound or broken bone it’s fine, but how do we know when we will have a wound or broken bone or dental issue.
I have not read myself anywhere that osteoporosis meds mess with ANY wound healing. What I have read is the "small" risk for jaw bone "death" (osteonecrosis) following major dental issues, and have heard from my dentist it can happen even without major dental work. All this is specific for the jaw bone. For me this is a major concern and what I believe may be underreported.
It’s like people not reporting they had COVID and not getting tested. My friend who it took her two years to heal and have jaw accept implant does not think the fosamax is causal bc she only took it for a few months. In general I agree people don’t know where to turn . Seems the safest is strontium citrate at lowest dose and all other supplements.
Tymlos and Forteo have been reputed to help with healing of dental/jaw issues as well as fractures. Prolia, bisphosphonates and to a lesser extent Evenity are the culprits for osteonecrosis and healing problems. We need to make sure our dentists understand the differences between the meds in this regard.
You think Tymlos and forteo are safe for healing wounds and jaw issues and healing future broken bones?
Can’t remember the source but it was reputable, and they said generally the spine is impacted meaning getting worse at the earlier ages and then that will level out as you get older. However, as you get older the hips would be the scores that would become worse. It was explained or I inferred that because the spine bones are more trabecular in make up versus cortical bone and vice versa for the hip. Keep in mind the femoral neck hip area versus the plain hip also is more trabecular in nature.
You have found better sources than I have, and I'm an avid reader (watching for reputable sources of course). In my case what you said is encouraging since I worry most about spine. Actually those are hip scores, so even more encouraging. My spinal scores can't be relied on because of degenerative conditions.
Wish there was a class in bone biology that could be modified for lay people.
