Tomorrow is Surgery Day: NETs in pancreas tail

Posted by billyfeet @billyfeet, May 25, 2023

After a surprise CT Scan revealed a 2CM Neuroendocrine Tumor on the tail of my pancreas in February I am finally going in for surgery to remove it tomorrow. I have benefitted from the information gathered in the posts on this forum provided by the folks suffering from similar fates. I feel so much better prepared mentally for what lies ahead since joining this group. Thanks to all who participate in sharing experiences and knowledge. I hope to be able to provide some recovery experience posts as time goes by. Looking forward to having this behind me.

Billyfeet, your initial question and the many responses to it have been some of the most informative for me on Connect. I hope all went well for you and wish/pray for an uneventful recovery. You got this!

Well a 5 hour procedure went well. I made it to my hospital room at 11PM and the pain was pretty bad. After getting settled in it went away and I got lots of sleep. Today has been pretty good…..some pain….the shot of morpheme in my spine has worn off. But I have an IV delivery of Dilaudid that I can actuate with a button. I am taking it easy on doses…..not too bad pain except when I cough or try to breath deeply. I got out of bed and walked the hall twice…..not painful walking, just getting back in bed. It will be a long week, but I am glad to have the operation behind me.

Day2 of recovery has been trying. Bloating, breathing issues and pain are the order of the day. Pain got worse as day wore on…this was expected as I had a spinal injection of Morphene that was set to last 24 hours. Weird dreams, shortness of breath and pain filled the night. Going to drop all pain meds today…..hope for a BM!

Day 1 was good for us, then day 2 was also difficult for Kim. But hopefully your through the worst of it. I know when she started walking even just distances down the hallway, she felt so much better. As much as it hurts somehow it tells the body, time to start healing on your next journey in this process against NET. Hang in there you got this. Keep us updated as your able please.
