Has anyone tried acupuncture for neuropathy?

Posted by Nancy Banks @banksnc49, Jun 27, 2018

I was just wondering if anyone has tried acupuncture for neuropathy. The balls of my feet and toes on both feet are affected. It’s no longer covered on my insurance plan so I have to pay out of pocket for the treatments. I was told I would need about 9 or 10. It would cost me about $1000. I’d like to hear if anyone has had success with this type of treatment. Thanks, Nancy Banks.

Hi Don @dsh33782, In another discussion I saw a post by a member who was working with a supportive acupuncturist/Traditional Chinese medicine doctor referred her to this article and she was going to follow the protocol laid out in the article. Unfortunately the member is no longer following Connect so I'm not sure how it turned out.

@johnbishop Great article, even if it is dry! I have had acupuncture sessions twice, both met with success. Now, it would be wonderful if I could benefit from it for my neuropathy caused by multiple myeloma, but having a couple other co-morbidities might send it off-track!

Congratulations on your treatment. Always nice to hear good news. My husband has painful idopathic PN. Acupuncture brought him some relief as long as he continued going. The travel there and back took a lot of time so he stopped going. It appears from reading many posts over the years that people who have PN due to cancer treatment have a better chance of their PN getting better over time. Hope this helps.

Yes acupuncture has helped me. I have auto-immune Lupus/Sjogrens and have flare ups of wide spread neuropathy that is prickly all over with an occasional bee sting sensation. Its different from nerve damage but I understand that acupuncture works on all types of pain. It usually takes a couple sessions then its good to keep going once or twice a week. Its deeply relaxing so is good for the body. I like Community Acupuncture which is where they treat a group of people all together, its not private, you keep your clothes on. The needles go in the hands, feet and head area. Cost is less than private, around $25-30 per session in California.
