cant speak for anyone else, but....i had one mengioma diagnosed13 yrs ago in california @ stanford med and another here in st paul last year. i was told they are very slow growing.
that does not take away from the fear and angst of wait and see, i know.
~~~best!
I had surgery for a large meningioma. Benign. A friend has a small one and they are just watching it. She has had it with no growth for about 15 years
I also just found out.
However from prior studies; no one told me. Yes. I was angry. I’m told it’s small and need to be monitored.
It’s been there almost 4 years..I have suffered from migraine all my life. ( the reason for the scans)
@terid
My partner has had a meningioma that the neurologist has been watching for 10 years. It’s has recently started to grow.
At 2.7 cm he said it was time to do something about it. The neurosurgeon recommended surgery and the radiation oncologist suggested radiation. My partner, who is 81, opted for radiation which is happening tomorrow - one big, strong blast. A second neurosurgeon recommended radiation because of my partner’s age. We hopeful. Would love to hear anyone else’s experience with this particular radiation (Gamma Knife Surgery). Meningioma’s are usually benign and tend to grow very slowly, if at all. Wait and see is often recommended.
@terid hi! I’m going to have radiation next week and would like to know how you feel afterwards
Hi. I was diagnosed with one in 2003. Doctor didn’t think I’d make it through surgery, so he used radiation to eliminate it. All has been well until this year, when we found a second one growing. My new doctor had taken a wait and see attitude. Not happy about it since it is so close to a major blood vessel, but my PCP says this doctor is one of the best, so I am taking his word on this
. Don’t be scared. They are benign and slow growing. Make sure you get regular scans and work with your doctor. Join a support group, they will help see you through this!
