@mcdora It’s never easy to choose elective surgery unless you are truly miserable and in intolerable pain. I think in your case you have to decide if the pain and instability is bad enough to make surgery an option that you want to choose. I think choosing surgery is also easier when you are very confident and comfortable with the surgeon.
Four months gives you a good amount of time to make a decision.

JK—thank you for your reply. I do have confidence in my surgeon. However I am afraid of the stem replacement. He tells me that it is a more complicated surgery than the total replacement. Right now the pain is tolerable. It’s the instability that concerns me as I’m afraid of a fall. Also having osteoporosis gives me more concern about falling. I will go back in April with more questions. I was hoping to get pros and cons from others who have had the same issue.
