Has anyone had sharp thigh pain after hip replacement

@skitchymo

I had a THR right side 6 months ago and have continued to have upper thigh and hip flexor pain on that side. Mostly when standing up from a sitting position and when straightening up after bending over. My ortho Doc just says that he noticed in surgery that I had VERY tight muscles, some people take longer than others to heal, and keep doing PT. Well, it’s getting a little frustrating to be limping and in pain 6 months after surgery. Any exercises that may help the healing process?

Hi @skitchymo - Welcome to the group! It does sound frustrating to be doing everything you're supposed to do and still be in pain. Six months is a long time and I know it must be discouraging. Are you still going to physical therapy? Did they give you any special exercises? I had a TKR last year and my physical therapist suggested a lot of stretching and especially holding the stretches in order to keep the muscles from tightening.

Hey @skitchymo, I am having a very similiar issue. I am 4 months post THR posterior left side. On the second night home from surgery I had a "spasmatic episode" in my hip/pelvis area that lasted about 2 minutes. It was excrutiatingly painful and I was sure I had completely ripped out my new hip. Xray showed nothing. Fast forward four weeks and I had to stop physical therapy due to extreme pain while doing straight leg lift. Again, xray showed nothing. I definitely believe I am having an issue around my psoas tendon or femoral nerve( which seems to fire on its own at night). In addition, I have "slow start up" pain getting up from sitting and in the first several steps. I also have upper thigh pain which massage seems to help. I tried for a second opinion and was told they wouldn't see me tell I was 1 year out of surgery. My surgeon just wants to wait and see? How are you progressing skitchymo? Could you give an update? I appreciate others feedback also. Thanks
