New Blood Test Detects 50 Types of Cancer at an Early Stage
https://grail.com/our-products/
Three days ago my GP recommended the Galleri blood test which one pays for out of pocket. She told me that it picks up the “shedding” from cancer cells in the blood stream and does so before a PSMA Pet scan can do it. By happenstance, two days ago in the Wall Street Journal, there was an article on this test. Today I spoke with a friend who had spoken with the CEO who told him there are still too many false positives and negatives. This is worth monitoring and could be a huge breakthrough for early detection. Has anybody had the Galleri test?

P.S: Mayo is listed on the Grail website as one, of a number of partners. Maybe Mayo can comment about the blood test?

Both blood tests seem to be important tests, but one tests the potential aggressiveness of prostate cancer while the other one tests for 50 different types of cancer at a very early stage.
The 4K score blood test is primarily used for detecting prostate cancer and is an important medical contribution. It measures four prostate specific biomarkers in the blood, along with clinical factors such as age, digital rectal exam, and can but not usually, include prior prostate biopsy results. The test helps determine the probability of finding high-grade prostate cancer on biopsy in men who usually have not yet had a biopsy.
On the other hand, the Galleri blood test is designed to detect many different types of cancer in the body. It utilizes next generation sequencing to search for DNA alterations in blood circulation (hence the cancer cell shedding concept) that are typically associated with various types of cancer. The test can detect cancer even in asymptomatic individuals and is particularly useful for detecting cancer at an early stage. That’s a big deal and making it part of all blood tests at an early age might help minimize cancer struggles, pain and advanced cancer solutions not to mention perhaps even death. One hopes.
I feel like cancer is like Rust on a car, It’s always there in all of us, It’s just when does it decide to

@bens1, here's an article from Mayo Clinic News Network. Mayo Clinic Oncologist Minetta Liu, M.D. was involved in the development of the new test.

Colleen: thanks for the article. Mayo obviously has a strong belief level in the product which is good. I am surprised they have not spoken about it because it seems like a pretty big deal to me.
