Any hope for aggressive metastatic prostate cancer?

Posted by jojoteacher18 @jojoteacher18, Apr 21, 2023

My husband, 60, just got an MRI report that stated aggressive metastatic prostate carcinoma >15 that spread to bladder and anus walls. We have an appointment with the urologist in 3 days. This feels so hopeless. Symptoms have been difficulty urinating mostly. PSA ranging 5-7 over the past month. IS THERE HOPE?

Thanks for finding and posting this video with Dr. Lucia Nappi, senior research scientist at the Vancouver Prostate Centre and a clinician scientist medical oncologist.

She does a good job of explaining preclinical studies and the process of human studies from phase I to III (and there's also a phase IV). She speaks of several new approaches currently in laboratory and mice trials, and early human trials that offer hope for future treatment options.

Thank you, have been dealing with prostate cancer for seventeen years. Treated with HIFU, surgery and radiation, cancer returning after each. Received the bonus of CML after radiation and stage IV prostate cancer one year after getting it in remission. It has been a journey.

@hairbrain, what treatment options for prostate cancer are being suggested now? Are you also getting treatment for CML or active surveillance?

Thank you for responding, my oncologist informed me yesterday that I have months left. I am still positive, refusing to take hormone therapies, been through enough. The side effects do not warrant living longer to be miserable. My CML is in remission thanks to the generosity of Novartis and their Tasigna.

@hairbrain, I can understand your choice of quality over quantity of time. My dad made a similar choice choosing to stop chemotherapy (colon cancer, not prostate).

Have you discussed palliative care with your team?
