Any hope for aggressive metastatic prostate cancer?

Posted by jojoteacher18 @jojoteacher18, Apr 21, 2023

My husband, 60, just got an MRI report that stated aggressive metastatic prostate carcinoma >15 that spread to bladder and anus walls. We have an appointment with the urologist in 3 days. This feels so hopeless. Symptoms have been difficulty urinating mostly. PSA ranging 5-7 over the past month. IS THERE HOPE?

Often getting medication to slow the cancer down also works to eliminate or significantly reduce the pain. I hope you do not give up as there is pain management medication as well as meds to address the cancer. Best of luck to you and hang in there, There may not be a cure but the doctors know ways to make this cancer one that you can live with for a long time. Good luck!

Thank you, have been dealing with prostate cancer for seventeen years. Treated with HIFU, surgery and radiation, cancer returning after each. Received the bonus of CML after radiation and stage IV prostate cancer one year after getting it in remission. It has been a journey.

A 17 year journey is indeed a successful one but not one without its substantial burdens. It is a journey worth doing. Keep on fighting man!!

Yes, on hope. There is hope, and lots of it. Soon your husband's prostate cancer will be staged. From there, a treatment plan will be made. The Trauma from the moment of diagnosis will slowly subside but return. The "moment of diagnosis" is only a benchmark, a moment in time along the Stage IV Prostate Cancer Path.

Next, you'll enter your new life. The "living with cancer life" will slowly settle in. Treatments, medications, and doctor appointments will all be part of your new life. So will the friendship of other stage IV prostate cancer survivors. Certainty comes from hope.

Have stage IV prostate cancer, no insurance, scans last week demonstrated innumerable sclerotic foci lesions on my pelvis, spine and chest along with compression fractures of T8-T10. Seeing my oncologist next Tuesday. Feel like I am dying. Any hope or should I ride this out.

Never lose hope. It’s not an option. There is treatment for your specific case. My concern is the lack of insurance bc this drugs are quite expensive. See what your oncologist offers as treatment and look forward to getting better. I will be praying for you and your family and please DO NOT LOSE HOPE.

Michael Milken is a cancer survivor of over 20 years. See this article.
https://gwtoday.gwu.edu/mike-milken-i-can-see-end-cancer-cause-death
That was 1990 that he was diagnosed and given 2 years to live. He beat it with diet and what was available medically.
I had prostate cancer in 2021 WITHOUT metastasis and am in remission now for the last 1.5 years.
I believe that much like Milken you and I have a much better chance by changing lifestyle. Exercise, sleep, fasting, diet, cold plunges. I suggest reading How Not to Die by Dr. Greger and the work by David Sinclair
https://healthnews.com/longevity/healthspan/david-sinclair-diet-and-key-principles-for-longevity/
Reading Rhonda Patrick (another research scientist) you will find that exercise can shunt away energy from cancer cells. Cancer thrives on glucose - (Read Dr Attia's book Outlive). Fasting and exercise can deprive it of that glucose and allow your body's immune system to possibly kill it.
My personal anecdata is that as someone that regularly got skin cancer (basil cell carcinoma) and had it surgically removed, I got what appeared to me and my dermatologist to be another case of it and the area around it became red (inflammed) and he said let's wait until that calms down ... and then it went away. This is after I had been on Greger's diet, was fasting daily (8 hour eating window) and exercising while in a fasted state. Also taking hot baths followed by cold showers (go to Hubermanlab.com and listen to the interview with Rhonda for a protocol). Anyway I hope to stay in remission and am doing all I can to stay healthy. Wish all of you (and me ) the best.

Editor's Note:
Healthy living and lifestyle, such as diet and exercise, can contribute to reducing risk of cancer and recurrence.
