There’s more than just that 1
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned all details: I got hit by a car when I was 14-15 yrs old, was on a motorcycle.. broke femur & flew thru car windshield head 1st..(late-mid 70s)…of course was unconscious…now days, that’s a red flag…not back then. I believe that’s what caused AVN in 1st place. Fast forward in ‘02 had 1st, 2nd in ‘04…6 wks after 2nd, had implant , BTW, both were sectioned. I was in PACU w/ 6 wk old post implant. Fast fwd 16 yrs…went in “LALA” Land. Was OUT OF IT. ‘’20 had rev. Post op report…
“At time of surgery, patient had significant fibrosis of synovial tissue of left hip with a caseating material from MOM hip articulation. Synovial fluid was tinged brown” ….
There is an effusion in left hip joint….Copious amounts of brown tinged fluid seen coming out of hip joint. Significant thickened synovial tissue that appeared like grated cheese in hip joint. Local synovial tissue was discolored.
This does not sound good especially since I’d had it for 16 yrs.
I’m at a loss as to what to do now. Can’t eat w/out significant gut pain & bloating…GI or Ortho?
No clue…the dr. that did rev left hospital soon after my procedure.
🤷♀️
What about both? GI first, since eating is vital.
Then Ortho - find a doc who specializes in complex revisions. Imaging (beyond x-ray) will be needed to evaluate the current status. The description of your tissue at revision is characteristic of the metallosis issue, but that is gone now - all removed at surgery. So something else is going on - perhaps related to your earlier traumatic injury.

That’s what I was thinking…in fact, have already found an Ortho that said he’d see me… even after reviewing my record from rev. I told them I had a procedure that needed to be done 1st..(GI), so if that gets fixed, I’ll see Ortho.
BTW, I had to say I was sorta putout about your comment in response to me saying that I was a shut-in. I’m not happy about being like this. The worst part besides the pain, is not being able to do what I want…I used to be pretty active, not exactly a jock, but, you know, just walking the trails w/ the dog (who has since passed), riding bike…I miss that.
Somebody posted yesterday about all the things she’s seen about implants….I believe she said she just had 1 & was quite happy. Well I know there’s a lot that’s not good…after all, I had mine for 16 yrs…of course, I didn’t do any research, as I said in previous post…I had a 2 yr old & a-newborn, so I was sorta busy…
But I do want to share something that happened to me & id like ANY feedback…i hope it was an isolated incident.
I went back to Dr. that did original implant to ask if he knew of anything I could do to help expedite the process of flushing metal ions from my body, due to metallosis… he told me he had “Never heard of it, and didn’t know what I was talking about”.
That was one of the most awkward & surreal moments in my life, I think. I mean, he IS a practicing Ortho surgeon…not just someone I met at the grocery store! WTH
I believe most ortho were just as amazed as we were about the metal ions. Not really something they teach in med school, except maybe to environmental health specialists or hematologists. I learned about it from reading about metals on Google Scholar, it seems removing the source and time are the keys.

I’m pretty sure I mentioned how I even thought that all my gut issues could be from my hip. I don’t remember…I find I’m saying that a lot.
I’d like to believe in the year 2023, most orthopedics have some knowledge of that.
It was my Long Time GI that made the comment..connecting the 2.
Is there a way I can see all my posts ? Just mine?
I was scheduled for knee replacement but insisted upon testing for bone cement and metal allergies based on my allergic testing history to over a dozen elements. Medicare doesn't pay for testing for this pre-surgery metal allergy testing so I had to pay $600 and this blood test was shipped off to a lab in Chicago.
Results- positive allergies to 5 metals, but not titanium. However traces of other metals are in titanium. Surprisingly I wasn't allergic to bone cement although I'm currently allergic to acrylics used in many adhesives. My surgery was canceled because the surgeon said wear and tear on the implant caused sloughing of metals and the trace metals I was allergic to would enter my body.
Another topic- how to pull heavy metals out of your body at home.
Chelation can pull metals from your blood. This can be done faster by having your blood filtered by doctors. Heavy metals have been tied to Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and Grover's Disease, GD ( a form of eczema). i have GD and GD has no cure, however I learned from blogging on this site about home chelation using blended cilantro, about 1/2 bunch daily, to pull out heavy metals. I did this for about 6 months. After one month it put my GD into remission. I was clear for about 3 years and it mildly started up again and I resumed the smoothies for a few weeks and it's controlled again. If you have metal implants with high levels of metals in your blood get medical chelation but levels are only at slightly higher levels of metals in you blood, in my layman's mind this seems like a good way to prevent higher metal build ups.
There are other herbs like oregano which can also be used, Google this topic. Those of us that experimented with fresh or fresh frozen cilantro to put our GD into remission found it helped about 50% of us, few that used cilantro oil or capsules found relief. So if trying to self-chelate your blood I recommend using fresh or fresh frozen blended with about 1/2 cup of water and chug it down like a tonic. If you put it in your morning smoothy it was ruin the taste of your smoothy.
3/2/22 Left THA anterior approach using Zimmer implant. Suffered an intraoperative femur fracture during the procedure and a single cable was used around the femur (originally told it was stainless steel then corrected to cobalt-chrome material). Besides 14 months of pain, I've had a strange taste in my mouth since the surgery and blurred vision (no eye problems detected), foggy head and severe fatigue. My blood tested positive for Nickel allergy back in June (MELISA - $500 sent to Germany). I've had numerous Xrays, ultrasounds, CTs, nerve test for possible ablation procedure, aspiration of fluid found (not infectious), another surgeon suggested possibly Illiopsoas tendon and I had an injection which didn't do anything to help, last was PT with Needling -- with no relief. Recent visit to Duke Medical confirmed probably the cerclage wire is causing the problems. After so much pain, anxiety and anguish, I'm now going to have the wire removed on May 23. Praying it is the source of all my problems as the hip looks perfectly placed and does not seem to be the issue.
Going through chelation at my doctors office for lead in my system.
