It would seem to me to see how hormone treatment Eligard 45 mg 6 month dose would work, tumor still contained in my husband’s prostate, he is 80, before beginning radiation??? Just wonder. All new to us.
Thank you

Yes my cancer is undetectable , I'm going to put off radiation for as long as I can. Good luck, keep in mind everybody is different. I'm lucky so far.

I hope this combination ( Zytiga, Prednisone, Eligard) works. I've been on it for 8 mos. Side effects from these is "soul crushing" . BUT PSA IS UNDETECTABLE.
The slated course of treatment is 16 additional mos.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL

@spryguy Can you dive deeper into your comment about it being soul crushing? Did you also have radiation therapy? How are you doing now?

Thanks

The early process was an abyss of confusion and fear.
That was 3+ years ago.
It was 7 mos until I went to Mayo ( Phoenix). The care I received was a rescue from the abyss.
My treatment plan started with lupron (2.5 yrs) concurrent with radiation (40 sessions) and then
Abiaterone with prednisone for 2 years. Lots of side effects and it is chemo in pill form. Treatment concluded in 2024. (I am now 78) I am in remission and still trying to loose weight and beat the fatigue. I do feel pretty good and slowly getting better. I am optimistic about the future. I hope you are doing OK and have a positive outcome. Good Luck God Bless

I started IMRT watching my diet. As time went on I would occasionally eat foods that were not advised and toward the end of the 39 sessions I was eating anything I wanted in moderation. I even had pizza and beer once. No ill effects.
My treatment plan going forward is 16 mos of ADT (zytiga prednisone and eligard). In Sept of 2024 all meds to be withdrawn and PSA test every 3 mos.. IF (when) PSA increases to > 0.4 ng/ml. I expect a PSMA pet/ct scan to show some specific locations of recurrence . Those areas can then be treated by the appropriate therapy and then perhaps ADT again.
"Rinse and repeat" until something else takes me out.

@spryguy we are on the same path. All my PSA results have been undetectable . Testosterone is still very low it does increase by small increments.

Again thanks for the reply, I did have the PSMA/CT scan. I had it in August, it showed a little bit here and there. Now the MRI/CT scans are clear, I asked about another PSMA scan. The RAD doc said it would show anything, sine my PSA is so low. It can't be measured. I'd like to stay on ADT until there is something that will show up. So he will know what to hit. RAD therapy is nothing to take lightly, the low fiber diet and the weeks of sessions on a hit and miss approach. Not worth it for me right now.

@philipbrachko No red flags there, Phil; your cancer is still alive and well, just tamped down by the ADT for now.
You don’t want to stay on ADT too long because you run the risk of becoming castrate resistant; that puts you in a whole other ballpark, OK?
Your RO is probably suggesting IMRT to the prostate and pelvic lymph nodes ( DO NOT OMIT THEM!!!). This will deliver a killing blow to the already weakened cancer cells and hopefully destroy them. Not doing radiation is leaving the job only half done - and worse, setting you up for a more resistant strain of cancer. Best,
Phil

@williemac, I hope you saw @spryguy's reply to your questions.

Williemac, are you on the same hormone therapy combination -- Zytiga (abiraterone acetate), Prednisone, and Eligard (leuprolide acetate)? How are you doing?
