Dosage Adjustments On Tymlos Pen
I recently started using the Tymlos pen. I am on the beginning of
the second pen. I have been on the full dosage and the
side effects have been horrendous. I am 5 foot, 1 inch and
weigh 110 pounds. I asked my doc and the pharmacist at the
specialty pharmacy about starting at a lower dose. They both said
the pen only administers the full dose.
Now I am reading that people have adjusted the dose on the
Tymlos pen by using clicks. Can someone please explain to me
how to do this. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks.

The pen has 8 clicks. Move the dose slowly and you will feel and hear the clicks. You can start as low as two clicks. and my doc was happy with 6 longer term (though I did get to 7 and even 8). Side effects tend to ease at each level, after a week or two. Tymlos has made me a lot stronger so it is worth it to try and stick with it.
Thank you. Can I start as low as 1 click?
I have started with 1 click. I assume the benefit here is that my body getting used to the drug, not that there's massive bone-building going on. FWIW-- I am 110 lbs and 5 ft 1 in, too, and I haven't felt any side effects (yet) at this dosage level. My current plan is to go up a click a week. We'll see how far I get.
Thanks so much.
You can start with one or two. It doesn't matter. The goal is to let your body adjust to the change in parathyroid hormonal action. You can start at whatever level you can tolerate. If you start with one it will just be an extra week.
If you do have side effects, I hope you can stick with the medication. There are certain side effects that do get better but I did have fatigue, even at 6 clicks. I did better getting up and out though, versus resting!
Your advice is most
helpful. Thanks.
I started Tymlos three days ago, with one click, and am feeling very fatigued.
Does this tiredness go away or get better?
Honestly you barely get any Tymlos with one click. Are you sure it is making you tired? It is possible: I had side effects from a 10% dose of Forteo which seemed hard to believe, but it was consistently true.
In my experience the side effects did mostly go away at each level (but I never got to 8 clicks). In fact for me that was the whole point of ramping up. Keep at one click until you feel better enough to move up.
In my experience, there WILL be side effects. I was totally committed because of my painful fractures. Headache and nausea and palpitations all disappeared. I still had some dizziness at a higher dose, but not at 6 clicks. Fatigue remained at all levels but I stopped resting and got up and out and found that to be helpful. That's me but hope it helps you! Our bodies do tend to adjust to hormonal meds, I believe and I hope that is true for you.
Thanks so much for your
input.
How are you doing on the Tymlos? I am thinking about starting it. I am 4' 11", 110 pounds and want to start slowly with the dosage and increase as tolerated. How has that worked for you? When you use one or two clicks for example, does the dosage say something other than 80? Thanks in
advance for any feedback you can give me.
