I was diagnosed with Figo 1 with up to 50% myometrial invasions and also have high- grade carcinoma involving the lower uterine segment and cervix with cervical stromal involvement. At first the plan is to get the chemotherapy, after get the final diagnosis from the pathologist after surgery my oncologist referred me for 25 external radiation and 2 brachytherapy. There’s no diet given only to avoid high rich in fiber foods and caffeine. I heard that radiation treatment only gets you a minimal side effects which is opposite on what I’ve encountered. 1st week of treatment was totally fine, it’s just feeling tired. 2nd week started picking up some symptoms of side effects such as nausea and vomiting , acid reflux and heartburn. Over the counter meds won’t help, so I was prescribed with Zofran. Started to vomit light pink blood and with black tarry stool once. Took an abdominal ultrasound and result came that I have a hepatomegaly which they referred me to GI especialist and hepatologist.
3rd week of treatment loose bowel movement to diarrhea
Last week of my treatment nausea and vomiting still going on, started to developed skin burns on my treatment area. Don’t know if this related to my radiation treatment that I started to shed some of my hair plus developed dried itchy scalp and it’s flaking.
Now, finished my external radiation and brachytherapy still with on and off nausea and vomiting, my scalp is getting more dry and itchy.
After 4 month’s follow up with my radiation oncologist.
@elliealto7 I'm wondering if your oncologist or radiation oncologist recommended a fasting regimen for you during your radiation treatments? If so did they have specific recommendations of how to do this? If not, then why are you thinking you might like to fast during your remaining radiation treatments?
I had external pelvic radiation treatments (25) and I talked every week with the nurse and the radiation oncologist how I was feeling, including diet, sleep, and exercise. They did not suggest a fast. They did suggest foods to change if I experienced diarrhea.
I would like to suggest that any changes you make to your diet and lifestyle during radiation should be discussed with your radiation oncology team. Have you already done this or will you do this?
