The Mayo Clinic pain clinic in Rochester, MN is seeking volunteers with chronic back pain and depression or anxiety symptoms to potentially participate in an eight-month research study. We are conducting research on effective treatment interventions for patients who suffer from chronic low back pain and depression or anxiety symptoms.

You might be eligible to participate in this study if you are 18-75 years old, suffering from chronic low back pain for at least 6 months, and suffering from depression or anxiety symptoms. This eight month study includes four research visits to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, weekly online surveys about your pain, and physical therapy and antidepressant medication depending on your group assignment.

I'm interested. I'm 60 and have suffered with bad back pain after two failed spinal fusions. I am currently on meds for pain, depression, and anxiety.

I live in Manitoba, CA does this disqualify me from the study. I’ve had 2 back surgeries, double knee replacement surgery, 3 foot surgeries and a number of smaller surgeries.

I'm kind of young, I'm only 35, but because of my work, I also have unbearable pain in my lower back, for several days. I am afraid to imagine what will happen to me in 10-20 years.

Hi frankiecaldwell~
Sorry to hear that you are suffering so. I have a bulging L-5 disc...with narrowing of the nerve canal..and can relate to the pain and anxiety over what could be coming in years to come. I've made some changes in the last few years to compensate for the pain I know is either coming in my day, or I awaken with it...so...this is what I've found to really work wonders for me.
I go to sleep on my back with a pillow under my knees..do the same thing for about 20 minutes before getting out of bed in the am. That made all the difference in my quality of life. Then..when I started to get numbness in my toes and shins..I looked for something to help there as well. I FINALLY found that if I take just one Benfotiamine 150mg. in the am with breakfast...AND don't sleep on my side all night...my numbness and shin pains have just gone away!!!!!!!
I also use a hot pack on my lower back when it does act up during the day..that relieves the pain as well. Don't lift heavy things...use your legs and not your back...
I'm 79 and if I can find this relief..so can you! Hope this helps!

Would you consider a woman who is 83? I have had chronic back pain and depression since I was 18.
