Post-cholecystectomy or gallbladder removal surgery

I had my gallbladder removed 8 years ago, 2 or 3 small incisions. I had a bile leak that was fixed about a week after surgery. I'm having horrible pain in my back right around the bra strap..I've had it since the gallbladder issues started and got more severe after surgery. I get nauseated from this pain and can get no diagnosis from a doctor. I take Neurontin and have taken Lyrica and Cymbalta with no help at all. If a doctor could help I would be so grateful. I have chronic pain from other issues as well and to not have this pain would be awesome.

I have been having pain on my right side after gall bladder surgery too my back going on 3 months... Nauseated in the morning and generally feeling malaise. I have been also treated for renal cell carcinoma in that time frame.. My doctor found my pancreas has been not functioning properly also... I am not producing Amylase and it might be what is causing the pain and illness in my GI tract... My gallbladder was so bad when the surgeon took it out he remarked about it being very diseased and scarred.. It's possible that it may have damaged my pancreas cuz prior to having the gallbladder removed I had several bouts with pancreatitus... I think many of you might be experiencing this and need to have your pancreas checked out... Taking pain meds and other meds are not a proper solution to the condition.. I am still trying to get treated but my Healthcare system is working at a snails pace... I will update if I can if there is a solution to this...

Have your doctor check you pancreas.. mine was damaged from my gallbladder I believe... have them check amylase... I too have had same pain in the same places had every test ct scans etc.. my pancreas isn't producing amylase and when you look it up the same symptoms are involved with the pain I have had since my gallbladder was removed.

Month ago, it really helps with the discomfort and indigestion after meals.I take one with meals.

Yes I have had similar discomfort and very sorry to hear you are in such distress. Mine was taken out first week of January 2023 and I was prescribed creon which I take also with every meal.. I had been suffering from pancreatitis prior to it being taken out now the doctors say I have pancreatic insufficiency. I know there are several complications that can occur with gallbladder surgery involving bile duct blockage or leaking etc. Stones can still form after the surgery or be missed so if you haven’t had imaging done to rule out those issues do so immediately. Also have your doctor check you pancreas and liver out for proper enzyme functions etc. I do hope you get this resolved. I know how much pain a discomfort you are experiencing it’s terrible.

I had my gallbladder removed in early 2021 . It was done laparoscopically and I had 5 1 inch incisions. After it had healed I had recurring sharp grabbing pain where the gallbladder used to be. It’s been 2 years and it has gotten much better but not 100%. My gallbladder hadn’t been working for a couple years they said after they removed it so I had less of the digestive symptoms from lts removal than most.

I feel exactly the same. I am in so much pain now that I wish I didn’t have it removed. I only ever had one attack and no further problems and they removed my gallbladder. I’m suffering with a spasm in the left rib and intense back pain. I don’t know why and neither do the hospital. Are you any better now?

Last July (2022) had laparoscopic Gallbladder Cholecystectomy. Pathology assessment showed incidental finding of extrahepatic biliary intraepithelial neoplasia (BillN), low grade, in the gallbladder. Cystic duct margin is involved by biliary intraepithelial neoplasia, low grade (no evidence of high grade dysphasia and carcinoma. Doctor states (neoplasia BillN) is not cancer but a risk for developing cancer in the bile duct and/or liver exists. Recommend MRI and possible ERCP with (Spyglass) in 6 months.
3/20/2023: Had MRI with negative findings (Normal) however , surgeon recommends endoscopy ERCP to rule out any further issues. Has anyone experienced any kind of incidental findings following gallbladder cholecystectomy?

I know this is old so I hope you're better. But what you have is bile reflux and it's extremely hard to diagnose. It's taken me 3 years and 4 gastrointeroligists to get my diagnosis after gallbladder removal. I'm now looking into surgical correction as mine is also terrible and I didn't have this to this degree before gallbladder removal. The surgery is the Demeester Duodenal Switch. Few surgeons do it so travel is usually involved. Outcomes are very promising however. Good luck.

No I was diagnosed with EPI which is from no amylase production. I also have RCC which I was treated with radiation for hopefully in 6 months that will be in remission. If you are suffering any anxiety symptoms it could be caused by the problem I am having with my pancreas. If so it can cause worse symptoms including liver and digestion problems. I am seeing a couple more doctors about my issues. Yeah your problems could be pancreatic or enlarged spleen you should insist on a ct scan with contrast do they can check for anything else as well as ultrasound. Make sure you have all labs done concerning pancreatic function and for infections.
