How accurate a biopsy lung test can be?
My father did an a-ray on his chest and there was a tumor that was found, and we didn't know if it a benign or not so we did a Biopsy test and the biopsy test said that there was no any malignant tumor, but in the PET Scan there was an inflammation on the lymph nodes and the results of the PT scan was giving us a light. So now we don't know what to do please give me an advice please anyone here please. So some doctors are saying that we should do another biopsy test, and some are saying that we should make a surgery to remove the tumor, so what can we do now? Pleaseee i need an answer as fast as possible

Thank you so much if you can recommend for me some good and trustable doctors please tell me
Success of the needle biopsy depends on the type of tumor; I have a ground glass nodule that cannot be biopsied due to its having a "lacy" edge. They did want to biopsy lymphnodes, so I went in for that, but they could not get anything useful from like 5 tries. I went to a surgeon to have the lymph node removed, but the surgeon said it was not "palpable," so he would have to remove several from under my arm. I declined the surgery, did not want to chance edema in my arm (friends who had breast cancer say concern was real) and Drs were okay with that. You could discuss what type of surgery (robotic? laparoscopic?) and consider that. Personally, I'd rather have the errant item removed (my ground glass), but they are following its growth pattern. The first follow up showed no change in size. The inflammation from the Pet Scan was attributed to getting vaccine in that arm, but nothing definite. Hope this helps.
What medical specialty are the doctors who are giving you advice in?
If some doctors are suggesting another biopsy, that seems like a very reasonable next step rather than surgery. Perhaps both doing the biopsy and reading the results should be done by a different doctor or a different facility or both.
I would have another radiologist look at the scan.
If there is a teaching hospital you have access to, that could be a good choice. Doctors and labs at one should be in the top of their fields.
I hope all goes well for your father.
Thank you so much freitag
@freitfreitag we did another lung biopsy with a different doctor thank you so much for the advice.
@californiazebra And yes i will keep you posted
What were the results of the new biopsy?
I am very conficent innthe doctors at Northwestern in Chicago. My oncologist is Jyoti Patel. She is amazing. Thoracic surgeon is David ODell. The Lurie Cancer Center is in the top 10 in the country. Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY, MD Anderson in Texas, Mayo. There are many good cancer hospitals in the US.
yes, the results was yesterday and the biopsy test was negative it didn't show any malignant tumors and we showed the results to more than one doctor and all said that there is no malignant tumors. Really i dont know how to thank you but thank you soo much for your advice really thank you
Congratulations! I just love hearing when a biopsy is benign!
