Hello, I've had multiple colonoscopies and always use moviprep and it's really really gentle, no cramps at all, and a lot less amount
I have had several colonoscopies, they have always been rather painful , I was told they sedate me beforehand but did not notice was wide awake and followed the pocedure on the screen. I am in my 5th year in recession of stage 4 Colon cancer. I am supposed to have another Colonoscopy but have declined so far because it is so painful. I am 84 yrs with occasional Afib and wonder if that is why they hesitate to sedate me. Is there something that can be done? I am still in good shape and fairly active. And live a normal independent life. ( scared of Colonoscopies )
@margareet,
So sorry to hear that you experienced pain during a colonoscopy. Please tell your doctor this as well as your being awake during the procedure and ask him or her if they can do anything to make it less painful. Perhaps there is some pain medication that they can give you if they do not want to sedate you more deeply. I am not a healthcare provider but a colonoscopy itself should not be painful. I am glad to hear that you are an independent and healthy 84-year-old. That is wonderful! Please remember that you have the right to discuss things that affect you with your doctor directly. I wish you well.
I am sorry to hear this. Maybe a different doctor or university hospital that has lots of experience?
@keskasay, it is recommended to follow your doctors directions when preparing for a successful colonoscopy. You might appreciate the guidance offered in the blog post from Mayo Clinic

When is your colonoscopy?
I had it. I used Natural Calm instead of Miralax. Worked fine. Doctor satisfied.
Love to hear more about this method! Could I message you?
