Hello,
I just joined Mayo Connect and searched my previous cancer: Anal Cancer (and also Vaginal Cancer that stemmed from the former). I'm not seeing much here. I didn't realize it was this rare..
It's not one I'd wish on my worst enemy, for sure.
I was diagnosed in 2018, chemo and radiation, then surgery in 2019 when another tumor formed in my vagina. The specific cancer is Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Anus. It's caused by HPV that my body could not clear, as it does in most other people.
Anyone in the group that has had this?

I have just been diagnosed with this cancer. I had ureter cancer in 2021, on the PET scan in February an anorectal cancer showed up. It is through the muscles, with lymph node involvement. I start chemo radiotherapy tomorrow. I’m sorry you are dealing with this too. It is a very challenging road to be on.

I was diagnosed with anal cancer in September of 2022. It’s been a long road and I’m still not in the clear. I had 6 weeks of chemo (Xeloda) and radiation. I tolerated the chemo well, but the radiation was tough. The burns were so terribly painful. My tumor is all gone except for about an inch. I’m hoping in the next couple of months it will disappear completely. This squamous cell cancer in unrelenting. I keep reading stories about how it reappears. It’s difficult waiting for the other shoe to drop. I have been left to deal with fecal incontinence due to damage from the radiation. I can live with that as long as the cancer is gone.
