Is it IBS or Gastritis?
Hello all. I have had a hyda scan done as well as a scope months ago and they said I had a very small high hernia. Fast forward to two night ago while in bed I had a pencil stabbing like dull pain in left side below right pectoral/upper abdomen. It lasted the next day and was tender to the touch. The next night if moved to the left side breifly. Yesterday it started in left and then around stomach area. Comes and goes but is still there. Happens with movement and can feel if you push the area. Feels like a stabbing in that particular spot. My doctor seems to think all is well for now but wanted another opinion from maybe someone who has had similar or any recommendations. Thanks in advance guys.

I had CT scan and endoscopy which both said Diverticulosis according to the doctor. It's not fun to have. Thanks for the advice.
With diverticulosis, you will want to avoid foods that are high in fiber and follow a low fiber diet with a variety of nutrients. By eating fish and chicken you are accomplishing this but you will need foods with vitamins and minerals as well. Unfortunately. many fruits and veggies are high in fiber. However, canned fruits (without skins) are acceptable. You can get a list of foods for diverticulosis from Mayo Clinic online. If you are experiencing pain, you could have an infection. You can ask the doc about antibiotics. Fissures can also be painful. Sometimes they are the result of an autoimmune response. Were you checked for Crohn's Disease? Many people with Crohn's develop fissures. Also, I still would suggest being worked up for gallbladder disease.
What type doctor and what kind of test does one need for gallbladder test?
A gastroenterologist (GI doc).
Been there, done that. Not gallbladder.
Diverticulosis site says to eat a high fiber diet so doing as much as I can. Since I started this diet, my symptoms have regressed. But, pain persists on right side. I think it's a good sign, maybe!
I was thinking of diverticulitis regarding the low fiber diet, which is temporary when the colon is inflamed. Sorry. Fiber is necessary for adequate digestion. Do be careful with certain foods such as seeds, nuts, and popcorn, as they can lodge in the pouches (diverticuli). That is good that your symptoms have regressed. If the right-sided pain doesn't go away in a day or so, you might contact the doctor. You want to rule out an infection or inflamed appendix.
I also googled Diverticulosis what to eat and not eat. It's very interesting to find out since the doctor told me nothing about that.
Unfortunately doctors don't usually go into the holistic aspect of managing a disease. They tend to stick to diagnosing and treating. (I'm an RN so I am familiar with their habits!) Other departments like dietary and nutrition come in very handy since diet is so important with diverticulosis. I am treated at Mayo Clinic for Crohn's Disease and actually work with the nurse practitioner. She ordered a dietary consult which proved to be very helpful. I met with a dietician who gave me lists of what to eat and what to avoid, etc.
