My experience has been, with all of the dozen or so doctors that I have seen in trying to get help for all of my symptoms (which have only finally been diagnosed as long covid by a rheumatologist), is that they don’t want to be problem solvers. They only want patients who have a neat and clean problems to fix, they don’t want to have to think outside of the box or expend the extra time and energy to help a patient figure something out. I also think some see it as a blow to their ego. It’s much easier, and likely more profitable, for them to prescribe meds instead and hope you go away. I have not been to Mayo Clinic, but this has been my experience with all of the doctors I’ve seen in WA State. I definitely think more research and studies are needed to understand how long covid and the vaccine are affecting people. However, I don’t think a more nefarious reason exists or is needed to explain why regular doctors don’t want to deal with long covid patients—we’re too much work.

That was certainly the case with my previous doctor. She didn't have any answers about Long COVID, so she told me they wouldn't know anything about it for a decade. Meanwhile, I was suffering from symptoms that were and continue to be debilitating. After 3 vaccinations for COVID-19, all 3 Moderna, I got even worse with Long COVID. My doctor's answer to that was that she didn't have TIME to see me and I should go to Urgent Care. Needless to say, she is no longer my doctor!
