Is it IBS or Gastritis?
Hello all. I have had a hyda scan done as well as a scope months ago and they said I had a very small high hernia. Fast forward to two night ago while in bed I had a pencil stabbing like dull pain in left side below right pectoral/upper abdomen. It lasted the next day and was tender to the touch. The next night if moved to the left side breifly. Yesterday it started in left and then around stomach area. Comes and goes but is still there. Happens with movement and can feel if you push the area. Feels like a stabbing in that particular spot. My doctor seems to think all is well for now but wanted another opinion from maybe someone who has had similar or any recommendations. Thanks in advance guys.

Osteoporosis
I read that one gets pain on left side with diverticulosis, but my sharp knife like pain is on my right side. I never know when it's going to hit me. But my scream when it happens alerts my dog who comes to me to see if I'm alright. I wish I knew how to get rid of it and the pain. Am I alone with this?

Have you had any tests of your gallbladder?
Sudden pain could be caused by tiny bits of gallstones blocking the bile duct.
No test for gallbladder. Doctor said it is diverticulosis. I only eat fish or chicken now so I can go couple of days without pain. I need to get a second opinion. Sharp pain just happens still but not all day as before. Is that a good sign?

If it’s diverticulitis it’s usually on left and you can feel really sick- that is inflammation / infection of diverticula. Diverticulosis is usually not causing pain.
Chicken and fish are great foods. Low fat. I could eat fish every meal! Always feel good. I have to be careful with beef, pork and sausages. Too much fat = right upper abdominal pain.
I had my gallbladder out but even afterwards I had problems because of tiny gallstones trying to pass= lots of pain. I sometimes also could scream with pain. Better now after they made it easier for minute stones to pass.
I think a second opinion is a great idea for you.
It’s easy to check gallbladder with ultrasound.
Trapped gas?
Did your doctor actually order a workup (including xray, CT scan, colonoscopy) to positively diagnose diverticulitis? In addition, an upper GI series including a cholecystogram or CT scan/MRI might be a good idea to rule out gallbladder disease.
I had a CT scan and doctor said, Diverticulosis. Had endoscopy, doctor said Diverticulosis and a Fistula. Yikes!! Terrible pain on right side which has now subsided since I took all those pills he prescribed and I am only eating fish and chicken besides being careful what I do eat. But, looking up Fistula has me concerned. I guess Diverticulosis is just hanging around now. Get pain on right side occasionally now. Is this a good thing?

Fistula- that’s unusual, but I’m sure it can happen with diverticulitis. Sounds as if you had infection. Do you have to have that fistula checked again?
If you continue with the sudden right sided pain you can ask to be checked for gallbladder disease.
It’s very reassuring that eating mild foods like chicken and fish help. I’m extremely sensitive to fats- including olive oil.
