new onset of symptoms

Posted by llkahan @llkahan, Oct 18, 2022

Hi, am new here, looking for answers because I know something isn't right, even though all test results come back as "normal". I was diagnosed with IBS several years ago and have a history of peptic and duodonal ulcers( but none currently) I moved, had to re-establish myself with a new gastro MD who says I actually have Gasteroparesis. NOT IBS. Fast forward to 3 months ago, all of the sudden started having excess saliva when I went to sleep at night, saw an ENT who did 2 scopes in his office, referred me back to Gastro MD, diagnosing me with gastric reflux. In the past month I have had new symptoms of loss of appetite, nausea, weight loss of 7 pounds and pain in my upper abdomen, just above belly button, cramping relieved somewhat by use of a heating pad,( and continued IBS type issues like chronic constipation and feeling of fullness after eating a small portion). Have recently had colonoscopy, CT scan of pelvis with and without contrast, abdominal ultrasound, endoscopy, blood tests, HIDA scan for gall bladder, and a fecal study. All normal results except fecal study shows Noravirus. What the heck is going on? I am not crazy but the tests keep coming back with "normal" results. Am open to suggestions ...(ps have always been careful with diet due to IBS since college, am now 57 and except for these new symptoms, in good health)

Do you live near Savannah? I do too.
I went to MUSC for the blood vessel stricture. They are excellent. They opened up a blood vessel that was compressed by a ligament and later put a stent in it.
Yesterday, I actually went to Savannah to see a new GI doctor. I had another one there before, but I lost faith in her.
I like this doctor so far. Interested, asking and answering questions, discussed possibilities etc. In other words, like a perfect doctor. He also teaches Med students at Memorial Health.
For a Mayo appointment it’s probably easier if your primary can send a request with all your clinical information. They appear to be tight with appointment spots now so your doctor can present your problem best.
I also recommend MUSC, I wouldn’t hesitate to go there for anything. It has a very good reputation.
Let me know what you are doing- regarding a second opinion.

I haven’t had a HIDA and MRE shows a “sludge” in the gallbladder. I have been asking for the HIDA and barium swallow to see this organs and functions. One year in this desert but with lots of faith. Hope you get the help you need as soon as possible 🙏🏻 blessings and healing ❤️‍🩹

Hi, am so sorry I have not responded. Yes I live in Savannah. Have been so incredibly frustrated. I tried to get a referral for a specialist in Augusta, waited a month for call back, finally called them to find out they don't take my insurance and just a consultation,no testing was $400. So, I am just hit or miss with food these days. I have a follow up appointment with my regular Gastro MD ata the end of March maybe the meds aren't right, maybe dosage needs to be tweaked.. all I k now is I'm nauseated when I wake up and still (this has been since June) feel bloated, have pain towards upper abdomen and over to left side. I eat very lightly, green tea for breakfast (can't handle even the thought of food before 11), probiotic yogurt and chicken broth at lunch, nothing until maybe 4 ish( small protein bar or protein drink) then light dinner (fish is good, chicken is questionable, beef is no longer an option). Who did you see in Savannah?
