Lanreotide Manufacturers: anyone have experience with either?

Posted by markmark007 @markmark007, Dec 22, 2022

Lanreotide Manufacturers
Approved products are manufactured by Ipsen and Cipla - does anyone have experiences when the the two products are used in ones' NET treatment?
e.g. an increase / or decrease in Chromogranin level ?
increased / or decreased fatigue?
injection site issues?
Many thanks,
Mark

I have just been diagnosed with Neuroendocrine cancer, and currently have no symptoms. It is metastatic, and lanreotide is the recommendation to slow or stop further growth. Not sure what to do?

I guess I’ve been blessed had my first Lanreotide shot February 16th, no side effects, and no issues at the injection site. My second shot is tomorrow, I’m hopeful it will be the same.. So sorry to hear about your experience…

I had pancreatic surgery in February. Have metastases in liver. Just had my first Lanreotide injection on March 13. Nausea and vomiting, diarhea the first day. BM about 4-5 times ( after every meal basically), but not too bad. Yes, the goal is to stop the metastatic sites from growing.
Good luck and God be with you!

Hi, I'm new to this group. Was dx Dece. of 2021 after developing a bowel obstruction. I had a resection at which time it was determined I have nonresectable liver mets & some positive nodes. I started lanreotide in Feb. 2022 & have received an injection every 28 days since. The jnjections are painful but less so if administered over 40 sec unstead of 20. Fortunately I've had no side effects other than diarrhea. Last month was the 1st time I developed a lump at the injection site that has not resolved. Any suggestions for preventing lumps?

My wife was given lanreotide injections for many years. After encountering the same lump issue as you now have, she determined that for her ........ a 3-minute minimum injection time was critical to prevent lumps. I understand everyone is medically unique.
I am not a medical pro - just relating her personal experience.
All our best to you,
Mark - on behalf of my wife

Thanks Mark, I will have another injection on the 30th and will ask the nurse to give it even slower. The nurses have been wonderful doing whatever they can to make it less painful.

Hello @fae and welcome to Mayo Connect. I'm glad that you have connected with some of our members like @markmark007 and that he has shared with you his wife's experiences.

If you are not currently seeing a NETs specialist, I would highly encourage you to consult with one, even a virtual appointment would be very helpful. NETs specialists have vast experience and training in the latest methods of treatments available. Here is a listing of NETs specialists throughout the world.

I see that you have had a resection. How are you doing post-surgery? Do you have an appetite or any problems with eating? Has your medical team made any suggestions for treating the liver Mets such as liver embolization?

Thanks or reaching out to me. I am being seen by a medical oncologist at University of Wisconsin. While not on your specialist list he has several other patients with neuroendocrine cancer. I have submitted my lab and scan results to NIH for a specialist to review. She will be providing a second opinion.
I recovered without any complications from the surgery. I'm eating a regular diet. At the time of the bowel surgery they also removed my gall bladder at the recommendation of oncolgy, this has not seemed to cause me any issues. Overall I feel fine just a bit more tired than usual. Nothing an afternoon nap doesn't help.
The oncologist and I have not discussed liver embolization but I will be adding that to my never ending list of questions for my next appointment. Any recommendations for articles to read reagarding embolization?

As a fellow Wisconsin Badger, my wife has dealt with the past 9 months, similar diagnoisis as yourself. We have been working with the Froedtert Cancer Care team in Milwaukee. I can't recommend them enough. She had a mass on pancreas, liver with too many tumors to count, back in April 2022. Now after 9 cycles of Lanreotide and Cap/Tem Chemo (pills), she qualified for surgery on 3/1/23, and they removed the remaining mass on pancreas, spleen, gall bladder, and as many of the liver tumors as possible. We are in a great position to make this a mtn. item going forward, any and all questions I answer to help you, please let us know.
