Had a cough for a couple weeks, by 3rd week got worse, but couldn't get in to see doctor until 4th week. Was diagnosed with acute bronchitis and was prescribed Augmentin and prescription strength cough syrup, which I've been taking for 6 days. Haven't seem any improvement, other than for the last 4 days it's difficult to breath sometimes and there is a whistlin/squeakie noise in my chest when I exhale. X-ray a couple days ago showed no pneumonia and was advised to continue with Augmentin for next 4 days. Lying down causes the noises in the chest more, but does make these noises while sitting up too. Any advice on dealing with bronchitis? Suggestions for sleeping through the night? Lying down vs. sitting up, etc.? Thanks.

Have you seen an ENT specialist to rule our GERD or LPRD. My cough was misdiagnosed for over twenty years as asthma or bronchitis when it was LPRD.

Thanks. My GERD was diagnosed several years ago and I take medication for it; it wasn't real bad and things are OK in that dept. (still on meds). I'll have to check into LPRD.

Couldn't find LPRD. What is it.
