Any one out there that takes or has taken Budesonide side effects

I took Budesonide for two and a half months. The only side effect I have had is some swelling of my face. I had no other side effect. It has helped me immensely. I have microscopic colitis and have not had diarrhea or bloating since I started taking it. Good luck.

I took budnesonide for two and a half weeks and had severe side effects. I got insomnia and anxiety, lost 13 lbs ( and I am thin to begin with ) My heart rate and blood pressure soared. The ended up taking me off without weaning and this is a nightmare. 10/20th 0f 22 was last pill. Still have insomnia and my cortisol levels are high. DO NOT GET OFF W/O WEANING. Jackie

Hi thanks for your reply...I have been trying to wean off this drug. One doctor said to wean this way..I had been taking 9 mg..3 capsules and then said to go to six mg ..2 capsules for one week and then one capsule for one week and then off. I went to a conference yesterday for crohns and colitis and I asked one of the doctors and he said his taper dose is a much longer taper. Are you doing better , are you taking a new drug? I think the side effects of these drugs are worse than the actual disease. The cramping , bleeding and loose movements are terrible. I have lost a lot of weight also, and have much fatigue. I don't know about this drug, but tapering schedules for drugs that require it are usually much longer than this. As you get toward the end, you may want to find a pharmacy to titrate your dose.

Hi Kitty2, Sorry for your problems Ask your Dr. but I would taper very slowly. Sorry I had to get off w/o tapering. Good luck and your physician should give you a schedule.

Hi..thanks for your reply..how are you doing..what kind of problems did you have..and where you taking 9mg or lower. You can not get a hold of these doctors. I tried again today. Impossible to get an appointment or a return phone call. I sure hope you are ok. Thanks for reaching out. Kitty2

Hi Kitty 2, Thanks for your concern. I was taking 9 mg 3 times a day but unfortunately the pharmacy put no instructions so I took all at one time. when I called G I he said it was ok ?even though I could not sleep and ht.rate and pressure were up. I kept calling and I think they got tired and just said go off w/o weaning. Since then I am a zombi and cant't seem to sleep. Good wishes to you and I will pray for you. Jackie

Hi Jackie..you were taking nine mg 3 times a day..wow I was taking 9m in the morning..took it all at once..I cant even imagine how you felt and how you are feeling now..my prayers are with you..have you had any labs drawn since going off and are you taking anything else...that drug is down right nasty..the side effects have been awful, the doctors did not get it. No one wants to listen to us. Please keep in touch..I am thinking about you. kitty2

Hi @kitty2.. I am so sorry to hear about you are feeling...I have microscopic colitis and have had to take this on 2 separate occasions since my diagnosis. The tapering process is lengthy. My doctor is at Northwestern in Chicago. My dose and tapering were 9 mg (capsules were in 3 mg-took 3 pills) Gradually taper to 6mg for 2 weeks, then 3 mg for 2 weeks.
I do not recall other side effects as I was so sick at that time with gastric issues and other recovering from other health issues that I would not know if this caused a one or not. I do know that it helped me. I am so sorry this is not working for you and that you are unable to reach your providers. Are you in an area where you are able to secure a second opinion?
