Has anyone had problems with their Linx or have had it removed?

Posted by saucy @saucy, Mar 13, 2023

Have very bad stomach pain and food not passing through the Linx without feeling like I’m having a heart attack! No doctors where I live no anything about this! Has anyone had problems with their Linx? I had surgery in 2014 and did fine until this past year! Anyone have it removed?

My husband had the Linx surgery in 2013 at the Mayo in Jacksonville. It solved his acid reflux problem. Occasionally he would have problems getting food to go down. He finally adjusted and learned what he needed to eat first in order to get the linx appliance to open. He also recognized which foods were harder to go down and tried to avoid those when possible.

Its a magnetic ring placed on the esophagus to keep acid from going up but allows food to go down.

@willows and @pachab00 here is an excerpt from Mayo Clinic https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gerd/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20361959
"LINX device. A ring of tiny magnetic beads is wrapped around the junction of the stomach and esophagus. The magnetic attraction between the beads is strong enough to keep the junction closed to refluxing acid, but weak enough to allow food to pass through. The LINX device can be implanted using minimally invasive surgery. The magnetic beads do not have an effect on airport security or magnetic resonance imaging."

Thanks. I could use one but I wonder what happens if it breaks inside the
body.

I had the linx put in 5 yrs ago and am now having severe problems!!!! The linx has caused my esophagus to swell above the linx and food constantly gets lodged!!! I just saw a specialist today who has told me I need to have it removed and that the damage has been done and nonreversible! I am waiting to see if a GI surgeon will remove it and do a bypass.

I had the Linx put in in 2014 and it broke around 2023 causing ulcers and stage C esophagitis. The Mayo surgeon that put it in took it out. It was a much harder surgery to remove as she had to take out one bead at a time. I had 14 incisions on my stomach. After 2 months on PPI’s the ulcers cleared and as soon as I went off the reflux was back. The reason I put on the Linx in the first place was to get off the PPI’s after 20 years and not working very well. They have since come up with a lot of data stating how bad PPi’s are. Even the bottle says only take for 14 days. I had food allergy testing and cut out every food except meats and cheeses. I had been tested for Celaic over the years and bioscopy always came back negative since I haven’t had carbs since the 90’s. Finally by Mayo doctor said there was another genetic test out to test for Celaic and sure enough it came back very high! Even though I thought I ate pretty gulten free diet once I cut it out completely I’m no longer on meds! It’s a rough road to finally feel well!
