How did you find out about your primary immunodeficiency? And do you mind me asking what it was? My ID doctor wants me to see a immunologist. I just haven't seen one yet because I just had to have major surgery and this is all happening so fast, I only found out I had this a couple weeks before my surgery! My ID doctor told me that he wants to try to figure out why I got the MAC since most of the time people that get this have some sort of compromised immune system. This is very confusing for me because I don't know what it could be?! If you have any info please share! Be really interested to know. Hopefully the immunologist will be able to help!

Hello, and a belated Welcome to Mayo Connect and our group.
Have you also been diagnosed with Bronchiectasis? If so, has the pulmonologist started you on an airway clearance routine?
Sometimes, depending on the severity of a MAC infection, a wait and see approach, combined with daily airway clearance, often using 7% saline solution, can be used to decrease the level of MAC in your lungs and avoid the antibiotic regimen. This is not as scary as with most infections, as MAC is very slow-growing.
Good luck with your IG infusions, I hope they go well.

I have been on Hizentra for several months for my immune deficiency. I with my daughter's help infuse it subcutaneously every week and so far I have had no side effects.
I was on the big 3 @age of 59. Multiple pills 3 times a week. I had bad stomach cramping, diarrhea & nausea. & no energy. I lost 30 pounds. I had to experiment with different foods. I did eat a lot of Greek yogurt, drank ginger tea, ginger soda, sucked on ginger candy. Having a healthy breakfast helped. By evening things weren’t so bad. I took early retirement, otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to complete the 18 months of meds. Wishing you the best!
