SFN in feet

Posted by jchet @jchet, Jan 8, 2023

In early evening both my feet start to swell and very warm sensation develops in my feet. The warmth generates so much heat that I rarely have more than a sheet and light throw over my feet at night…..and I live in N.Y. Where winter nights get pretty cold. More tolerable in the daytime. Anyone out there in the same boat?

@larry4343 is absolutely right. It also includes easy to follow tables that break down the whens and hows of
evaluations, recommendations, and treatments. The tables are excellent guides and are handy alternatives to reading the whole article. Although I believe that reading it through is really best, with using the tables for clarification. Hopefully you'll feel that you know your actual options.

Hello @larry4343. I went to my PCP and brought that excellent medical article on PN that you had referenced. I saw his MSN, APRN, FNP-BC (I once knew what all those abbreviations meant), and she's very good. She correlated my recent increased PN symptoms to concurrent recurring low spine pain and recommended PT before taking new meds, such as alpha lipoic acid. I hadn't considered lumbar symptoms in connection with PN symptoms. She hadn't seen the article and accepted it from me to read.

I thought you would want to know that your forwarded medical article was submitted for reading to the office of an internist.

I find raising your legs above your heart also helps. I have an adjustable mattress which makes this easy to do.

Yes, certainly helps, but you can’t do that all day. So walking, even sitting for more than 1 hr, the feet swell. I’m hearing water pills could help?

Compression socks help my feet and leg swelling. Not comfortable to wear with my neuropathy but it does help with the swelling during the daytime. It might be helpful to discuss the swelling with your doctor if you haven't already done that.

Yes, I did wear the compression socks, but they still swelled and I’m for sure going to discuss this with my doctors.

My doctor prescribed compression socks with 20-30 mmhg but I'm guessing it can be different for each of us. What is the compression rating on the socks you were wearing?

You can get Velcro compression socks with 20-50 rating. You can control the amount. Sigvaris is one of the brands
