Prostate cancer and sex: Should I stop?

Only if he wants to stop.

79 year old, Gleason 10, psa off the charts. 3years prostate cancer metastasized throughout bones.

Prior to cancer, had very satisfactory sex life. Cancer treatment took care of that. Kills off libido. Still want it. Still miss it. Still do it once in a great while. But not at all what it was before cancer.

My advice is keep doing it as long as you want and are able to function. For me, it's not about feeling "less of a man" because of not being able to. It's a quality of life issue, and that is something every couple has to deal with and work out for themselves.

For us, sorrow at the loss of intense sexual intimacy gets replaced by a lot of snuggling and cuddling and telling each other "I love you".

Having sex does not exacerbate prostate cancer (if that is the question).

Since the baseline for post-treatment sexual function is pre-treatment sexual function, anyone anticipating prostate cancer treatments should definitely continue sexual activity right up to the point of treatment, and resume pursuing sexual activity as soon afterward as possible. This is because of the muscles in the penis, which are activated by the nerves that will be affected. There are some therapies post-treatment (surgery or radiation) which are designed to prevent atrophy of these muscles, including pills, injections, vacuum devices, and tensioning devices.
