Ok, so mild covid July 2022. Glob of mucus in my throat started late Aug.22. Total hell with coughing fits , breathing difficulties. Nighttime was worse. I’ll skip the whole history-it’s somewhere in this thread. I’ve seen cardiology, Pulmonology and ENT. I decided to stop there, forget gastroenterology and continue my own research. This is what’s working for me:
Supplements: 1-2 with each meal
Betaine Hydrochloride 500mg with Fenugreek (natural Factors). OR
Betaine HCl with Pepsin and Gentian Bitters. (Doctor’s BEST)
I discovered this on YouTube, Dr Eric Berg, video: “The 3 Causes of Constant Mucus (Phlegm) in your Throat” He has way more on the subject.
AND
ACV Tonic: Several of these big glasses every day over ice before a meal.
12-15 oz water
1-2 T Apple cider vinegar
1t. pumpkin pie spice
1 T stevia or 0 calorie pure cane sugar-not a chemical sugar sub. It’s really pretty good! I discovered this on the YouTube channel, Serious Keto, “30 days of ACV vs 15 years of GERD/Reflux”
The mucus is protecting us from acid reflux. Traditional docs prescribe PPIs (omeprozole, pantoprazole, etc) or tums to reduce, inhibit ir neutralize stomach acid. It didn’t work for me. These YouTube guys are saying that excess stomach acid is not the problem. Actually just the opposite is-not enough stomach acid. The supplements above and the ACV improve our acidic stomach environments so that we have enough for digestion.
My other coping mechanism has been gum chewing. Sugarless gum after a meal to keep a downward motion from mouth through esophagus into stomach for a couple of hours. But since the Betaine HCl and ACV I’m not relying nearly like I was before.
It may sound weird but believe me! I toyed around with it for a couple weeks then decided why not. I’ve experienced so much improvement in just a few days! I am thrilled! It’s worth a try.
