Can we start a conversation about statin use and side effects affecting the pancreas, liver and kidneys.
My pancreatitis, flared up after beginning a regimen of Atorvastatin, 20 mg a day. I became so ill. Stopped taking the statin and pancreatitis has subsided. Also developed a kidney problem. I have an appt with a nephrologist in 2 weeks. Not everyoe can take statins. There is now a discussion among the medical commuity that if there is no heart disease, or no heart surgeries (stents, oblation, etc.), maybe change is in order instead of physicians prescribing statins just because of elevation of LDL's. Why can't alternatives be recommended. Dietary changes, weight loss and exercise. I guess a quicker fix and less time spent with patients is the way to go with some physicians.
Look forward to hearing responses.
