Coming to Mayo MN from out of state in a snow storm

Hello @cvanberkum, Welcome to Connect. I live in the Rochester area and am pretty sure most weather related cancellations are from patients not being able to travel to the Clinic. I've cancelled a few myself due to blizzard like conditions or icy roads. If you are staying downtown the hotels close to the clinic have a subway system so you don't have to go outside. Is your appointment for a procedure or is it for a treatment or diagnosis?

I am a patient of Mayo Clinic and live 90 miles away. I always have an eye towards the weather in the winter months. If I see potentially bad conditions, I go a day earlier and stay in a hotel. Don't know about Doctors making it in.

@cvanberkum. Your question is certainly à propos today as there is a winter storm in the midwest as I write this.

I was at Mayo Clinic in Rochester in late December when a blizzard warning was issued for that day. We found out that Mayo Clinic already has plans in place for weather emergencies. The hotel where we were staying was booked that night by the Neurology Dept. for their physicians, nurses and staff so that they could stay in Rochester and get to work. We found out that this happens all over Mayo Clinic and that the downtown hotels fill up during these weather emergencies. I think it's reasonable to expect that appointments could be cancelled but Mayo Clinic makes a huge effort to keep their staff in town in the event of bad weather.

Interesting to know. Of course, this is Minnesota, so winter is no surprise.
