Hello @sarah1017, Welcome to Connect. For the surgeries I've had at Mayo Clinic, the surgery consultation was a meeting with the surgeon to go over the procedure and explain the risks and benefits of the surgery as well as an opportunity for me to go ask any questions that I've have. A surgery date was scheduled at the end of the consultations for me but I'm sure there may be exceptions if you need additional testing first.

I would make a list of your questions to take with you, especially about how to best prepare for the surgery and maybe what will be needed during the recovery. There is a great website that you might find helpful for making a list of questions to take with you - https://patientrevolution.org/visit-tools.

Do you normally write down questions to ask at your appointments?

Thank you for your response, I have already done all of that, so I am supposing this is just a what I need to do to prepare and set a date. Thanks again!
