Sudden Exhaustion

Posted by deborah67 @deborah67, Feb 17, 2023

Hi I feel fine I will be doing something then suddenly I am so exhausted. Even after eating, like chocolate. I have to lie down and sleep, Then I am fine. I sleep well at night, I wake up feeling great. This is a new thing for the past month and a half. The only other weird thing is I get very bad cramps as if you are going to have diarrea but nothing happens. I am post menopause. If anyone has any ideas that would be great. I haven't gone to a Dr. yet

Hi @deborah67 You know what I’m going to say; Anytime we have a dramatic change in our health, it’s really important to have that checked out. Experiencing sudden exhaustion can be related to the heart, adrenal insufficiency, hormonal imbalance, sleep apnea…and the list goes on…
For your peace of mind make that phone call. ☺️
When’s the last time you had a physical or blood work done?

I had blood work done a month ago every thing was fine. I am waiting to see a cardiologist for over a year because my blood pressure drops so low i fall down . the lowest it has gone is 50/43. also my heart rate is either very low but when I stand up it goes to fast. while in hospital for something else, when i was falling down my heart went into an abnormal rythime. So maybe the syntoms are related. My mom dies of cardiac arrest when she was 57 I am 56.

Not to alarm you, but I’d be calling that cardiologist’s office to get in without a delay. Given the history of your mother’s cardiac arrest at a young age and your drops in blood pressure/heart rate, an evaluation is really important. Low blood pressure can be the cause of your exhaustion because your body isn’t getting enough oxygen. But your exhaustion, BP that low, abnormal heart rhythms and passing out aren’t things to trifle with.
You mentioned waiting to see a cardiologist for over a year. Do you actually have an appt scheduled?

I asked my nurse practioner to book me an appointment 1 year ago. Went back and she asked me why I wanted to see one. I explained everything that happened in the hospital and she oh yes I forgot. I have not heard anything yet but will call on Monday to see what has happened.

Yes, you need to be an advocate for yourself in this, Deborah. Our healthcare workers are over-worked and stressed out so sometimes things fall through the cracks. It’s up to us to make sure we follow through with these crucial appointments. I’m happy to hear you’re calling Monday.

Before you call for the appointment, jot down your symptoms so you can give a full description of what’s been happening. It’s important to underscore and alert the clinic of your symptoms.
Don’t take no for an answer! 🙂 Keep me in the loop, ok?

@deborah67 If you haven't had a hysterectomy, I'd be concerned something is going on with your female organs. Definitely go in and get checked. And tell them about the cramping. Blood work is good, but it doesn't tell everything. Sometimes x-rays are needed. I see my oncologist every year and saw him in November and all my blood work was completely normal, everything was normal but they ended up finding cancer in my intestine not even 2 months later with a regularly scheduled EDG. It had been there for quite a while. I have surgery on March 4th for that. So just get in and get checked out. It's the best thing to do. Blood work is not going to tell the whole story. They have to order CT scan sometimes and pet scans, and special blood work or urine test. Just be on the safe side. Good luck! Sorry you're feeling so tired sometimes...

@deborah67 maybe you should go to the ER when you have the low BP or faint. Sometimes, you need to show them your symptoms when you are having them. Tell them if you are having heart symptoms, they will need to address them. Don’t be shy about saying what is wrong. I read once that if you tell your provider that your loved one (sister, son, daughter, spouse, friend or even co-worker) insists you be seen they are less likely to dismiss your symptoms. If you say you have chest discomfort or pain they are also required to check your heart in ER. It is getting harder to see specialists these days due to the shortage of Drs. Take care.
