Hyperthyroidism and anxiety

Posted by anon808 @anon808, Feb 13, 2023

I have toxic multinodular goiters, and my TSH numbers have returned to normal from meds, but I still feel miserable and anxious. I’m trying to figure out the biology, are my goiters still spewing erratic hormones even though the numbers are improving from the meds? Do the meds just mask the problem but not fix it? Does anyone have experience with this? Or is my only other choice, that my thyroid has triggered an anxiety problem.

@anon808 any physical condition can be accompanied by anxiety. Not knowing what is going on is part of the problem. Years ago before I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism (Graves Disease) I thought I was starting early menopause! I had what seemed like hot flashes day and night. I had all kinds of energy and didn’t feel the need to eat or sleep. I was jittery and super irritable….. The best thing I did was to get testing and diagnosis. Then I got information and treatment. Do not hesitate to get information and treatment for the anxiety too. You are a complex individual, more than the sum of the parts. As a Christian believer I believe we are made in the image of God. Do your best to care for all the parts, mental & emotional health included.

Thank you. Yes, I’m heading to a university hospital in March and I am working on my anxiety attacks. They seem to correlate with my hyperthyroidism. I am hoping once the goiters are resolved my anxiety will not be as acute.
