Is radiation /chemo necessary after the tumor removal
A tumor on the left side of the tongue was surgically removed last week. It was stage 1 squamous cell carcinoma and the Dr suggested no radiation was required, I believe in my Dr but I am afraid if it is the right thing to do

Did the doctor complete blood tests like the NAV DX test? I was diagnosed in May 2022 and doctors said even if they surgically remove the tumor I’d have to undergo treatment. Maybe you should look at a second opinion just to validate / give you a peace of mind.

I just got a biopsy on my tongue. I’m praying the doctors tell me I don’t have to do treatment. I’m not mentally fit tbh

Ps did yours happen to look like this?

@vandanar, how are you doing? Have you considered a second opinion as @chanderson suggested?

I had a second reoccurrence for tongue cancer and began 35 radiation sessions. Eight months after treatment I was back in the OR for more surgery for yet another reoccurrence.

For peace of mind get a second opinion. Radiation is brutal with short, long term and possibly lifetime side effects. Hoping you will be lucky and be able to avoid that. Unfortunately I was not. Best of luck to you.
