Trabecular Bone Score

Posted by ChristyJ @christyj, Feb 10, 2023

I tried to post this yesterday but don’t see so I apologize if this is a duplicate.

I’d like to get a Trabecular Bone Score with my next DEXA Scan. My endocrinologist says no diagnostic labs offer this here in Tucson but Mayo Clinic in Phoenix might. I tried various ways of contacting them but could not find a definitive answer. Does anyone know if they offer TBS at Mayo in Phoenix? Thanks!

Thank you! For several days now, Medimaps locator link has not been working and I sent them an email they haven't responded to yet. I've tried it both in Chrome and in Safari browsers with no luck. If you have any thoughts, I'd love to hear them.

Email them with your zip code and ask where TBS is in your area.

I dont know about Mayo, I dont think they do, but Evernorth Health Care in Phoenix does have the capacity now. I coordinated with them in January to get there software up and running. I had mine at the Tempe location. You have to get a DXA with it. I paid out of pocket 144.00. FYI hey will give you a two page summary of your results, unless you go in person to the clinic and ask for a full copy of the DXA and TBS where they give you the photos along with breakdown of T scores about 6 pages. Marlin is the tech there who is great. I believe all of the Evernorth locations should have it now.
I have the email from Medimaps for the locations in AZ there is only 4, Evernorth (several locations) , the VA here in Phoenix, and 1 location in Tucson: Catalina Pointe Arthritis & Rheumatology Specialists 7520 N. Oracle Rd., Suite 100 Tucson Arizona United States

Lynn,
Thank you so much, this is exactly what I was hoping to find! I appreciate you taking the time to share what you've learned.
Many thanks,

What is difference between that and a Dexa scan? What is the benefit to the other?

It was described this way to me. Bone density increases slowly until we’re up about 15 and are at 90% of where we’re going. Therefore very young children have low bone density. But they have excellent bone quality. Small children will not break bones simply by falling. Because they have good bone qualities. Therefore, their bones are soft rather than brittle. You really need both to predict your chances of a fracture because you can have low bone density, but excellent quality and will not fracture.

Hi, I wish I had an answer for you but I opened your question because I have the exact one.
I am also from Tucson and can't find one. Infact just finding an endo here is difficult!
Would you please let me know what you find out. I don't know how to follow you??
Thanks so very much.
