Thank you all for sharing your experiences. This morning I had to put up with my 'musical ear' playing "Kansas City Star' by Roger Miller over and over and over. 🙂 I was able to switch it after a while to something even worse. Have been concentrating on writing for the past few hours on my computer so it's all gone now! It does help to stay busy with something that involves thinking!
For those who are concerned about and interested in tinnitus, I also suggest you go to http://www.hhf.org The Hearing Health Foundation is a research organizations that is doing considerable research on tinnitus.
Valerie,
Thanks for suggesting Amer Tinnitus Asso. I’ll look into it. The music I hear is not constant. Occasionally I will abruptly realize that I have no music in my head. None whatsoever. There is no reason for it to come or go, no triggers. Fortunately the voices, usually men in a chorus, are beautiful, and I can never hear actual words to the songs. I usually ignore it as though it’s music “piped in” from somewhere, and I’m grateful it’s soft and beautiful.I don’t usually stop and focus on listening because I don’t want it to distract me. If I accept as an odd fact that it is beautiful, that helps me tolerate the oddness of the situation. I wonder how my own brain is creating these particular songs. Until now, I haven’t tried to learn about the condition. I also have ADHD, and I don’t dare let myself turn my attention to such an absurd thing as music that only I can hear. I already have enough trouble staying focused and on track.
I never knew anyone else had “musical tinnitus.” I wish you well!
