Hello. I have never worn hearing aids but I do have Tinnitus which causes noises in my ears when it is silent outside. Can be a clicking, or buzzing, or like machinery running outside... there are quite a lot of messages on here abut it... and can be caused by different things; also sometimes it comes and goes; sometimes if caused by medication can stop when the medication is stopped and so on. I think mine could be hereditary but my parents are ho longer alive for me to ask them, and I am now a Senior, but both my adult children are starting to get it but won't discuss it with me. What I have is moderate hearing loss, yet I can hear sounds my husband cannot; I hear a variety of sounds and lately even musical sounds. Some people have it in the background and some it is quite noisy... am sure you will find lots of info on here and hopefully some information to help your wife. For myself I am getting help from an audiologist who gets me to focus on other things going on and trying to ignore the sound..... and some people leave radio on etc. Best of luck to you both.... J.

Did I read your message right? Did you say you sometimes hear music sounds? I thought it was just me and having a psychiatric problem. I am so happy (not that you are experiencing this) that I am not alone in this very odd auditory symptom! Thank you for your post.
