acne and aging
In the last 6 months my chin has started breaking out with cystic acne and I am 70 years old! I think it might be due to dietary sugar, which I rarely eat. Can this also be caused by plain stress? I'd like to avoid what causes it, if I knew what it was? Terminal acne?......hhmmm.

One thing that can cause acne around the chin is toothpaste that is simply wiped off rather than washed off after brushing. This would be the simplest solution.
Do you rest your chin in your hands by any chance?
Do you wear face masks to protect against Covid and other germs? I did awhile back and now I have a red chin that won’t go away. I was wondering if it was initially caused by the mask. Do any of you have a similar problem? My GP has referred me to a dermatologist.
Due to my normally oily skin (since practically forever), I've dealt with acne for years. For me it continues to be oils that may inadvertently land on my face. As an example, when I use lip balm, I've gotta be careful to make sure very little of it gets on my chin throughout the day. If it does, I'm bound to get an acne cyst.
BTW, I still use BP daily on trouble spots for prevention.
Good luck!

No age group is immune to acne. My mama had a bit at age 92. She tended to rub her face a lot. It wasn't a lot just one pimple here and there. Mostly her forehead and cheek. She would often get headaches .. 71 1/2 year old me too … we rub and the bumps appear. She also had chin hairs and would pick at them. I or my husband would pluck them out for her. Sometimes a hair follicle gets irritate and will cause a bump.
I have allergies .. not just to pollen, but things like smoke, perfumes, detergents, fabric softeners and air fresheners. I am also allergic to some medications. These cause a fine rash. I am also sensitive to whatever is in crackers and chips. I get a fine rash on my face and chest .. used to include my upper arms .. when I eat a dozen Ritz cracker or a serving of animal or graham crackers. The culprit does not seem to be flour .. I think it is one of the preservatives. I have stomach and esophagus problems and am limited on which foods they like. They love crackers and cookies. Homemade cookies I do fine with, but rash comes with packaged cookies. I should start making my own crackers to avoid the processed foods.
To help your skin with acne and rashes I recommend using Cetaphil bar cleanser. It looks and feels like soap.. but contains no soap. It needs to stay on for at least 20 seconds to kill bacteria. I just give my face and neck a real good massage with it in the mornings. I usually take my shower in the afternoon or evening and use the cleanser instead of soap. It is fragrance free .. but everything has a natural smell .. to me smells like a mild Lava Soap that my daddy used to wash his hands with after work. Not unpleasant. After patting dry I use lotion or creme … Cetaphil is my brand.. but any Non-comedogenic (means will not clog pores) lotion or creme that is gentle on the skin you prefer. Cerva is good brand too. If you have aloe plants you can use the aloe on your skin. Mama would get rashes in the foods of her body and that really helped .. if it did not I then used apple cider vinegar and between the two I kept down what the liquid wash did not. I was not using the Cetaphil cleanser yet.

Thank you Larry. It could be my retinol oil serum. What is BP?
Sorry about that, Little.
BP = benzoyl peroxide (an OTC acne cream). I should've bought stock in it a long time ago... purchased it a million times in my 74 years!

Is there a good product for helping the appearance of old acne scars? Mine look worse now than they used to. I am 67. Sure wish I could go back in time and stop the picking and squeezing I did. No doubt the reason behind the scarring.
@poppy67
I do not have a lot of scarring from pimples. What I do have show mostly when I have been in the sun for awhile. I do not wear makeup. I never wore it much. Hard for me to find one that I am not allergic to. My profile photo is me unedited and no makeup. Taken last year .. mid year. 71 years old.
I have known some men that have chosen facial hair to cover the scars. Some women use makeup. I have known a couple of people that went to dermatologist for treatment with good results.
I put the words “scars from pimples” into my browsers search engine .. I use Google.
These are the top two articles from my search:
Cleveland Clinic: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/21222-acne-scars
Mayo Clinic: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/acne/expert-answers/acne-scars/faq-20058101
Maybe they will help you.

How nice of you to do the search and find articles. I will read them this afternoon. Thank you.
