Any suggestions on dealing with an incisional hernia with an ostomy?
I got my colostomy in June, and got an incisional hernia around October. The hernia is very large and cannot be repaired. I tried a support belt but it didn’t really hold in the hernia. Someone suggested a tight corset or tummy control underwear. I want to hold the hernia in because I can only wear leggings and tunic tops now, but I don’t want to restrict the colostomy. Any suggestions?

Thanks so much! Have a great day!
Can I use your comment in my ostomy newsletter that I do for Northern California...You have a great attitude! Sometimes no surgery but coping gracefully with a good sense of humor is best option!
Yes, of course. Sharing is a good thing. Living with my ostomy for 10 years, I would be happy to contribute any info regarding my experience. This is a great website! Discovered it while checking for something else. One link to another link, so on and so on. I have shared the Mayo Connect site to friends and family. sher99 to dancing 1 and landj526...not sure how to address to and from?
I have had my Ileostomy since 2012 . Was a leader of an Ostomy group in
Northern California now I just do the newsletter for that area since I
moved back to Arizona. We are currently only doing zoom meetings once per
month. But I’m always looking for articles for our newsletter which goes
out to about 100 people. I’m having a little trouble with this Mayo sight
but hope to master it soon. Seeing Doctors at Mayo Clinic fir my
autoimmune diseases. Would you like a copy of one of my newsletters?
Thank you Linda
There are under garments that function with a hole for the ostomy bag so that the garment doesn't restrict flow to the bag.
Hi - I had 3 colon surgeries last year with a final re-re-section in November, 2022. While I no longer need an ostomy bag, one of the after effect of the surgeries is a soft and bulging stomach. The doc thinks it might be a hernia, but has not scheduled a CT scan yet. Has anyone dealt with hernias after colon surgery? Is it possible that diastasis recti can result from colon surgery? (Yes, I appreciate that this issue may seem minor compared to other questions that have been posed on this site).
Welcome, @ljk200.

I did this so you can read previous posts and connect with fellow members who have has colon surgery like @jbcisandi1 @sher99 @kenc @msgtrebholtz @dancing1 and more.
Incisional hernia is one of the most common complications after abdominal surgery.
Thanks Colleen.
I have had a large parastomal hernia and abdominal hernia repair. My entire abdomen is mesh. However, the parastomal hernia came back. I do wear underwear with an elastic top when I am out. I don’t wear it for a really long time. It has not impeded any stool from coming out but I would think it depend on the consistency. I haven’t had any issues doing this. Colostomy’s definitely change our style of dressing. But luckily at least I CAN hide it well. I just don’t swim anymore. Too self confident about it. Haven’t found a suit to hide it. Good luck.
