I have been on Tamoxifen since November of 2013 and will finish my 10 years this coming fall. Not one single side effect. Don't even realise I take it. On another note I wondered how my bone density tests would fare after being on it for so long. I am 71 and had a new evaluation in December and absolutely normal ! No osteopenia and no osteoporosis. I take no other medications. Guess I am one of the lucky ones. Interestingly I had HER 2 positive breast cancer also and was put on Tamoxifen so don't quite understand what the difference is.

Meeting my oncologist on the 25th for the first time. Very nervous! Surgery was so easy! Treatments scary me so much! She is going to prescribe Tamoxifen.

I think you will be fine. As I said I don't know that I take the Tamoxifen b/c no side effects at all. It has been around a long time. It is also very affordable. Good luck to you !

Tamoxifen is a bone sparing hormone blocker. I was on it 5 years, starting in 2000. I have been on it almost 5 more, starting in 2018. I have had no problems with it, no side affects, etc. I couldn't take the new medications I was put on so I asked if I could take it again. Oncologist said yes. I've had no problems with it. And I am very sensitive to medications. I hope this helps you.

This matches my experience. I am 69 and have been on tamoxifen for 8 years, and I actually like it. In addition to preventing breast cancer recurrence, it has slowed the progression of my osteoporosis. Initially, I had occasional hot flashes, but they were manageable — not severe. Your doctor will explain the few risks that attach to tamoxifen, so you can keep track and stay ahead of those. All in all, if a tamoxifen fan club existed, I would be a satisfied member. Wishing you good luck with it, too!

I also had some extreme itching and broke out in hives on Tomoxifin. It seems I was allergic to something in this drug. My doctor switched me to Exemestane and it was much better. Talk to your doctor, hopefully you can find a medication that works for you. I truly believe that all of the drugs that control estrogen have side effects. Our challenge if finding the one with the least problems for each of us. For me, taking a medication, even with side effects, is better than breast cancer…. The risk of the return of breast cancer convinces me to try just about anything to prevent recurrence! Good luck, and let us know how you are doing. We’re all rooting for one another! ❣️

I started taking tamoxifen at age 81 and battled headaches for 12 months until I simplified my life, and they are now minimal. I was told by a pre-menopausal female to stay on the Mylan brand to avoid night sweats and hot flashes which I have done. I will take this drug until the end of my life and feel a certain sense of security in knowing that it prevents the cancer cells from feeding on estrogen. It's partially mind over matter. Good luck to you!
