Pain In the Back of My Surgical Knee
My TKR was 7 wks ago. After original discomfort I do pretty well and don’t have much pain during the day at all. I’ve been released from physical therapy and have no problem getting around except for doing stairs are still very difficult. But, I am having excruciating pain in the inside of the back of my knee when I lay down at night. Have any of you experienced this and have any indication to what causes it or how to stop it.

Hi I feel your pain sorry you have to go through it to…. I can relate in everything I have read ..let me start by saying it gets better …..I had my tkr in august that pain in thigh I remember very well ….. I could not stay in a car but for short trips in town ….. the pain I felt in my thigh was unbearable……my dr was not much help with it …took X-rays of knee said it’s fine he said might be coming from hip….. but I explained to him I was not in pain before the band they use during surgery and severe bruising . Well no answers said it was my hip …..so I know i needed to do something so at my chiropractor office they have massage therapist I had few sessions with her …… helped so much she worked my thigh and calf loosened it all up…. Pt exercises for my thigh were kicking in to strengthen….. after few months felt like forever I don’t have pain in thigh ….. I am still work in progress but I will get there….. I hope this gives you some ideal what you can do …,this site the people are amazing we all have been there … we all don’t have same exact story ..,. But we all have a story to share and most of all hope because we know 9 out 10 times it does get better if you are willing to put in the work …..good luck wishing you some pain free day or at least for now an hour ….. this way you know it is coming
Thank you so much for your reply and encouraging words! I know rationally that the pain will no doubt lessen with time, sometimes it’s hard to find the patIence! The message and chiropractor is a good idea..I will look into it!
I also do mfr massage it is costly my insurance does not cover but it has been worth every penny….before mfr I was at bend 60 or less straighten not sure number but no where near straight….. but after few months I am almost straight and bend is 80 on my own 95 assisted so I have come so far ….. mfr helps break up scar tissue …. For me unfortunately scar tissue developed very quickly slowed my recovery …. Even now I still get frustrated it is only normal…. But I do keep diary brings things back into perspective….. so just remember where you came from you will realize how far you have come

I also went for mfr on Friday before I left ….. but honestly my knee giving my issues last few weeks having pain and being swollen …… every time I thing ok this may be over I have set back …… when I get home I am going for x-rays scan something make sure nothing going on this does not feel right…… sorry for whining just needed to let it out I am done now ….. when I get home Find a solution ….. for now suck it up.celebrate with my family and friends……thanks for reading
Don't worry about whining.....you are just not the type actually. Enjoy the celebration and then let's tackle that knee once and for all.
May you have freedom from pain for the big event.
Chris
First thing that came to mind is how is your extension? Do you do "bridge" exercise? This was so painful for me but I pushed through, added weight and now I don't have pain there at all.
Haha - sucking it up sure gets old .
Congratulations! Enjoy what you can and know you are not alone! Thanks for sharing
My pain is on top left. My vertical motion is pretty pain free,
But any side to side is very painful. I still have some swelling and my knee is still very numb. 3months on March 15th.
I’ll be 4 mos post Rt TKR. I finished 8 weeks PT with 0-125 movement. We started retirement at 10weeks & I began golfing. Initially felt great (played golf 2-3x/week, easy trail hikes, walked daily etc) but at 12 weeks post-op, I was like eza123 and could hardly walk. I called the surgeon twice & was told I probably overdid, rest, ice, do water aerobics/gentle cycling & use a knee brace when more active & come in if still bothersome. We’re 1500 miles away from office & dr repeated “it takes a year for a knee to recover” I rested 2 weeks & I still have a tightness-discomfort under the knee & on the outer side when I walk. It’s much better, I’ll take occ Tylenol & have daily Mobic. I bought a tool to measure my knee bend & it’s at 122. I’ve started walking slowly w/ brace & back off if I notice more pain. Has anyone else experienced these ‘set backs?’ What did I aggravate in my knee to cause the pain?
I too wonder how long before I don’t notice my new joint? I’m so happy I found this board & the support. Thanks!
Anyone out there having back of knee and calf pain? Feels like it’s in tendon/muscle not the joint. Also stiffness after standing or sitting. 1 yr Tkr. Truly believe it is hampering my recovery. First noticed it 6 months Tkr . Ortho has checked the Tkr results and that all looks great.
