PET Ga-68 Scan Scheduling vs. Most Recent Lanreotide Injection

Posted by markmark007 @markmark007, Jan 9, 2023

I was just scheduled for a PET scan 1 week following my last Ipsen (long lasting) lanreotide injection.
Separately, I have read that the scan should not be done within 4 -6 weeks of the last injection.
I will certainly verify with my provider but ....
has anyone else had a similar experience?
If so, what was the final answer?
Many thanks
Sharon

This is a good question, Sharon. While you wait to hear from other members of Connect for their experience, I did find some information on the NIH website which might give you some talking points when you speak with your doctor.

Is there a specific reason why the PET scan is scheduled so soon after your injection? I'm wondering if you are having new symptoms, etc. that is concerning to either you or your doctor.

Hello 👋🏻
My treatment was with Octreotide (Sandostatina LAR30)
One each 4 weeks, 18 doses.
Between the treatment I had 3 PET CT with Ga 68 (octreotide), one at the beginning, the second after the 9th dose and the last one at the end.
The second and third PET CT was 3 weeks after the dose.
That’s my experience, but remember all bodies have different reactions,…. believe and trust in you oncology doctor.
BTW, I’m from México, nice to meet you 🙂

I get Sandostatin LAR injection every 4 weeks and neuroendocrine specialist advices against Pet GA 68 because of possible interference. Instead I do Pet Fdg. Not too sure with Lanreotide but I know it is similar to Octreotide. Probably OK to do the GA 68 scan but not within 4-6 weeks of getting injection.

My PET CT last year was actually rescheduled due to a conflict with my lanreotide injection. The problem is the lanreotide attaches to the same receptors the PET needs. My doc was careful to reschedule my scan 2 days before my next injection.

I had the Gallium 68 Dototate scan at Mayo three and a half weeks after my monthly Sandostatin injection so that I could start the PRRT treatment the following week, putting me back on schedule with those monthly injections. It’s my understanding they want there to be a period of time from your injection to the scan, but close to the time for your next one.

Yes that is correct. I had my Gallium 68 on January 9 ,2days before my monthly Somatuline injection I have every 28days.Sandostatin was my first injection which worked about 12 years until I had to change up.
